the reason msoft has trouble with challenging apple at the moment is quite frankly:
consumers are more comfortable with any other company as leader of the market because we have all had to deal with msoft's operating system one time or another
they will announce another game is going multiplatform and it will be the talk of the show completely ignoring all the exclusives the other two companies announced and acting like a multiplat is better
add a cover system that would be awesome, as well as a star wars battlefront sort of homebase for online play with 40-60 players and a single player campaign

i know what your saying but if a dev company sells millions the money made will take them beyond your so called "small business" world.

I think it has more to do with the social aspect of it all. I think Americans(i'm American too) usually enjoy playing against others and are very competitive, what genre puts the most ammount of other players in a game?
An FPS does this well and it is easy to find another group of people to play.
