Microsoft doesn't listen to it's customers at all. What they are is a bully... they are going to force the GaaS all digital future regardless of peoples opinions of it.
This is why I don't buy an xbox, it's not that I like Sony or Nintendo I simply don't like Microsoft.
People often say competition is good, and I agree, except when it's Microsoft. The sooner they fail and drop out of gaming the better for everyone.
Success for Microsoft is getting suckers who can't see their hand in front of their face to sign up for Gamepass give up ownership and control and join the all digital future.
All the hard core xbox die-hards will buy this and anything else they say. Unfortunately those folks will never criticize or question anything Microsoft says. And that is why Microsoft continues to do these things and talks about "retaining" users instead of growth.
As long as they have people who will buy anything that has the xbox logo on it with out question they will continue these practices.
If by "difficult" you mean not as easy as selling half a game then selling the other half as "updates". Then yes, you are correct, it's much easier to sell half a game than a full game.
Man, there sure have been a lot of xbox reassurance articles recently, well I guess it is the lead up to E3.
I'd like to reply to the numerous people who are talking about PS3 vs 360. PS3 was never losing to xbox. 360 just launched first, in aligned sales PS3 always lead 360. But even by the non aligned sales metric PS3 and 360 were constantly apart by a number of millions you could count on one hand. Now when you look at this gen xbox is ACTUALLY losing. PS4 has sol...
Microsoft can talk about retention while Sony and Nintendo talk about growth.
If your goal is just to keep the user base you already have then you are failing.
And the reality is PS4 has more paying subscribers to PSN than Microsoft has sold consoles so regardless of how many people they retain they are not as successful as PS4 by any user based metric.
Ok, lets be real here, yes Steam gamers contributed. But the reality is 80-90% of Nier's sales were on PS4. Look at any game that's on console vs Steam and the sales are 80-90% console.
Now as I have said twice yes it's on Steam... But with out the PS4's sales the game would not have funded Platinum's ability to self publish.
