Before the conference even happened they said they wanted to show the console, but the main focus of games would be reserved for their E3 event, which is only 20 days later. They are doing what they said they'd do, so I don't see the problem here.

It's fair. Sony waits for E3 to show the hardware, and Microsoft waits for E3 to show the games, but only Sony gets a free pass on it as far as N4G is concerned.

How can you say that until you see the games? Sony and Microsoft will have about 90% of the same games, plus each of their exclusives. How does that diminish the gaming aspect of the XB1?
