Depending on the card itself, an average AIB Vega 64 consumes 275W while NVIDIA Geforce RTX 2080 consumes 225W. That amounts to 22% more power consumption. However, both produce the same temperatures--75°C.
It does nothing to piracy. Pirates compress games' files to almost 30% of their initial download size for free anyway. It's just an annoyance to the rest of the world with not-so-great Internet connections.
First, Valve stopped banning any game of any kind. Their open-arms approach led Steam to being filled with tons of crap you need to dig through to get what you want.
Second, even if Epic offered the very same features Steam has, no one will bother because "Better the devil you know than the devil you don't" is how people think in general. That's why Epic pay for exclusivity--to draw playerbase in.
Not just 12% that's promising, if the game is developed using Unreal Engine 4, its 5% royalty is dropped/included in the 12% cut. That's very appealing to developers due to how popular UE4 is.
If there is only one thing I liked about Skyrim, it would be the Soundtracks! That drum beat at the beginning was a unique game-defining soundtrack. You hear it, you know it is Skyrim. Such a shame if true.
Whether they succeed or not remains to be seen, however, I like this guy's mentality. He will offer developers a custom all-in-one engine with all dev-kit tools installed that takes minimal effort to port games across other platforms (PS4, XBOX, PC, SMB), and all that for free. I could get behind that.
