Didn't Betamax become standard in Brazil or something and that's why it continued? HDDVD has been losing on all fronts since PS3 came out. There's just no point in it continuing anywhere for any reason.

Why would anyone even write this? Every new major advancement is pricey at first. These are the next big thing and like everything else throughout all time starts out small and expensive.
Yeah MS never really had much of a stake in it since they have absolutely nothing to do with the movie industry. It was really just to counter Sony and seems to have failed. Only people who will suffer are the fools who rushed out and bought the add-on or a player. 360 itself won't be affected. But Blu-ray was always a safe choice since it was in PS3 and that's exactly why it has won.
About damned time. Seriously there is absolutely no reason to favor HDDVD anymore except some stupid anti Sony fanboyism. Doesn't matter at all who wins just as long as it's over and with better sales and Warner exclusivity Blu-ray is it, period.
