It does make it worse in comics because they are changing favorite characters to identities they are not. Making new characters doesn't help because they are not popular. So they are trying to use the popularity of established characters and still include diversity, then it comes off forced. Where Ellie was a new character and we all kinda grew with her over the story, and it's just who she is.
