I sincerely doubt that all (NOTE: ALL) games can run 1080p 60fps on consoles, even in the future with optimization. They'd either have to lower settings or find some loopholes (like Uncharted).
Even Rockstar won't be able to pull 1080p 60fps on their games (they're open-world. Those are hell when it comes to getting good frame rates with good gfx settings).

PCs evolve much quicker than a static platform (a console) can.
I agree although the "good" AAA stuff at least improves on established methods. Redone and reused, but at least improved.
I consider Nintendo to be one of the few companies that actually tries something different once in a while, not just improving something older. Sometimes it may not end well, but I can give them some respect for trying.

The only thing they lose is bandwidth (costs). Digital codes don't really cost money to produce (unless you consider the energy bill to be part of it).
