To me it seems more like a LoL/Dota/HoN game
I know this is a minor issue but:
32 bit environment = 4 GB memory
64 bit environment = 192 GB memory
Assuming Windows 7 Ultimate OS.

Good read. Very good
I just wanted to add, that the supporters of Geohot, seems do it simply because he is the 'underdog' and Sony is 'the man'. It seems to me that most of the people who support him are oblivious to what's happening.
So I'll say it again, it feels good that somebody at least have an overview over the situation.
EDIT: My comment is about the blog and the comments made by cgoodno
Was about to write a response to darkpower... but seems like cgoodno already has that under control.
The hole cannot be fixed =(
And well said cgoodno!
Ah it eases my mind that there are people who are aware of the situation with sony/geohot.
Imagine being a software developer. Sony is on 'our' side... We want to be able to own our own creation. I'm talking about IP (Intellectual Property)
And yes I refer to pirates. Because without the root keys can you sign/decrypt packages?
I got your PM, and HB = homebrew...
You said in the PM, that you wanted to discuss if Sony should ban everybody who uses CFW (custom firmware).
Well I want to express my view by an analogy:
There are 2 restaurants; one costs $60 a year (XBL), even if you don't eat there, the other is free to enter (PSN). Of course the meal in each costs money (games), but there is a great variety of meals to choose from.
Now if you enter one of ...
I have 2 questions:
First, what is HB?
Second, what purpose would JB have - if not for pirating?
Ok I'll take the trollbait... you got me.
First of all I see your point. Good thought process, but if you read the link about the Edge review score analysis, you will see that it mentions all those 'no-name' sites...
I don't know how well you know statistical analysis, but I'll tell you this: One of the purpose of statistics is to describe a population by its characteristics. Maybe already too complicated, but I'll assume you understan...
Good explanation...
I might add that, the radiosity method is an object space algorithm as opposed to pixel plane projection.
What does this mean? simply that if you imagine a virtual 3d world model, with lighting, then the radiosity method calculates any point in the model how that particular point should be represented. This creates a lot of calculation.
... And traditionally the pixel plane projection method is like this: imagine a camera in a 3d w...
In the title =)
After reading all the comments so far... yours made the most sense!
True
I believe that Burnout Paradise was available for download. And Siren the blood curse.

Ok so you are saying that the removal of YDL (OtherOS) caused people to hack the PS3?
Funny I seem to remember that it was removed after GeoHot hacked into the Hypervisor on PS3.
And when you say:
"With the PS3, the OS itself isnt as secure; its not too different from the much-hacked PSP. Its not a very tough OS to crack, as demonstrated by Geohot"
Are talking about the encryption, I thought that was cracked by fail0verflow....
I'll try to explain my view =)
How do game developers earn money?
A. Money fall down from the sky!
B. People buy their game!
Has game development become more expensive?
A. No way, it still costs $500 to make a complete game!
B. Yea, its more expensive to develop a game nowadays!
Do people want to get things for free?
A. No way, the more people pay, the more happy they feel!
B. Of course peop...
Interesting point of view. I mostly agree with you its about piracy... Even though they themselves deny it, its hard to ignore the consequences.
What I'm not so sure about is the fix this vulnerability with an update. First I want to point out I'm not a cryptography specialist, so, yeah...
>But< to give an analogy:
There is a safebox which has a secret combination. IF you know the code, you can steal the valueables inside the box... Ther...
"OtherOS was removed therefore there was an incentive to look for security flaws."
From my perspective it seems that OtherOS was removed due to concern about security from Sony...
So my question is:
If these 'white hats' justification is that they want to hack the PS3, because Sony removed OtherOS...
It does not make sense to me. Why? because:
Well OtherOS was there to begin with... >.<

Wow what a blunder - Epic fail - if their public cryptography random number is a fixed number != random... LOL, that is seriously weak!
If Sony had used the right formula and used an actual random number every time! Things would have looked a lot more promising for Sony. Wow just wow
Maybe they used a not so random seed to generate their number, i.e. time of day (perhaps?)
