But PSN users don't need to pay to play online games even if this rumor is true. The service adds extra features, which will cater to the people who are interested. By no means do PS3 owners need to pay to play online.

First of all. That theory is primarily applicable toward children. When a child's mind is still developing. They reason... "If I do something one way and get a reward then I always should." I think you are right about the maps theory. Because think about it...FFX was just as linear. There were no world maps, pretty much same outline, but the maps at least didnt show one path in a shoe string.
Overall, I am liking the battle system and I like the story and do no think it is "too" linear. I mean which games (save open-world games) don't progress linearly? I would hope they all do.

The main problem with people's hate on the PSP is that they don't see it for what it is. It is a handheld gaming system. It is not an HD Console that requires a solid setup to increase your gaming experience.
Why don't people view the DS through the same lens as they do the PSP? Handheld games are supposed to be games you can pick up and play and the PSP Go's pause feature is perfect for that. No matter if you are in the middle of a battle, or wherever you are...you can pause...
