Fallout was not so legendary in days we have been playing in Fallout. Fallout was too short(especially Fallout 1), has not so immersive gameplay(compared to Might and Magic 6 ) and has rather small world(compared to Buggerall of Bethesda and Might and Magic 6 ).
But in Fallout you could Really Role Play and Fallout setting was NOT fantasy - big plus for many people in those times. Of course, Fallout was not so "serious" as classic CRPG.

this game had been selling badly even in days of the RPG Glory. And Fallout was certainly worse than Might and Magic 6(alost the same year), but Fallout always was much more "Role Playing" by design.
And I do not believe in ability of Bethesda to create something small, smart and humorous as Fallout.
Remember this term, dude. It is only market segmentation.
P.S. And remember, that so-called "hardcore gamers" are mostly usual nerds. No more, no less. Industry does not care about nerd species, but will be happy to take money from this species.

Mass effect is kind of action game. Nothing spectacular here.
Fire emblem & Final fantasy tactics are turn based strategy. Like UFO, Fantasy general, Steel Panthers etc. Certainly it is not ComputerRPG.
AFAIK, Eternal Story is completely linear. In this case Eternal Story can not be RPG, just because gamer cannot choose game direction.

Nitendo won this game with fantastic profit. Microsoft lost this game with marginal profit. Sony lost this game with fantastic losses. Bravo, Sony! You did managed to lose market having over 100 mln loyal PS2 customers. You did managed to lose more than billion dollars on hardware sale. You managed to lose great exclusive titles. You managed... Huh! It's Sony!
Sells do not correlate with installed base in straightforwrd manner.

Sony continues to loose money on PS3 hoping for software sells. Microsoft on hardware more or less draw. Nintendo, ****, had got fantastic financial results.
