I feel you HOTA9X and my next thing if not first has to be. The heat issues gotta go, after having the YLOD on mine and my brothers system it is not a pleasant experience. Also knowing several other heavy gamers/ early adopters on my list who went through the same thing some twice.

I'm in the same boat as you man EA seems to be getting worse between project $10 and DLC. Dead Space 1 is one of my favorite games but Dead Space 2 I feel for one has forced multiplayer just to implement project $10. I would have bought it day one to be honest but after playing that horrible multplayer beta it just felt forced. I hear what your saying but man MWII was never this bad for me. The spawn system is inexcusable more then half the time. An having to back out to the main menu just to re party is as well. Not to mention still with the transmission errors and other disconnect issues it is a mess.
Honestly because they are still the best I have yet to come across an rpg this gen that can touch. Xenogears and Suikoden II plus my others like Legend of legaia and vanguard bandits are still extremely fun. I play those four at least once a year each usually, honorable mention Front Mission 3 and even 4 screw that tps front mission.
Honestly Settrip I just didn't feel like it was a game I would buy. Dead Space 2 however single player only would have been top of my list come January. Now though I think I'm gonna give it a gamefly before I decide. Honestly I think the only reason Dead Space 2 has multiplayer is because EA wants to put project $10 on it. Not a single person on my friends list was even half thrilled after playing the beta including me. It just doesn't feel right, they maybe could have gotten away...

To bad they didn't put Gran Turismo 5 on that list that would of been a sure thing. The AC:BH is great to but I've got that already from gamefly as well as Need for Speed(stupid 2 day EA pass).
Are we playing the same game? The spawns system currently in black ops is the worst I have ever played. The network lag, frame rate issues, transmission errors, constant party disconnects and still no ability to back out with party on the PS3 version. Its seriously just inexcusable at this point. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten commando knifed and killed after putting half a clip into someone.
Considering two of my friends did very well last night on their 360 versions 19-0 and this person isn't even that good. An the other person 33 and 1 I'd say the 360 versions problems can wait just a bit. The PS3 version is almost unplayable at times in multiplayer. Last night it behaved ok as I was able to actually connect some shots and go 18 and 2 rather easily.

You had the same idea as me and my friends. A separate co-op mode could have been pretty cool. Though after playing the beta the multiplayer felt tacked on like I knew it would. I wish devs would realize that like you said competitive online is not the only way. Could have had like I co-op horde mode through out the colony or something cool like that. Up to 4 players with the custom gear and layouts.
