I've never seen an organised battle (in an action game/ARPG) that contain 10 or more enemies. Chaos is pretty much a given at that point.

I think it's a bit premature to say that it's completely changed. Without a doubt, the recent tone has been pretty light and cheerful, but who's to say that wouldn't have been in VerXIII? And who's to say it won't also have that dark and gritty tone in FFXV?
