Au contraire. DMC4's combat system is actually deeper and more complex, but way more difficult to master. Whilst DmC is more accessible and easier, but doesn't quite have the same depth... It's good for first timers and casuals though.
And let me ask you: why the hell is it so weird to you that he just wants the type of combat which was one of the things that made the original so amazing?
He is just someone who prefers Turn based combat systems and the like. Don't act like that is a sin. Turn based gameplay is equally fun to action gameplay.
IMO the original was ATB style, so so should this one be. If you want an action combat system, go play FFXV.

This is one of the few times that I actually agree with you... I love action RPGs, but this MUST be turn based.
If it that were the case I'm pretty sure all the news sites would be talking about it. Not that I care either way. I don't even own an XBox.
No matter how much i love action RPGs, if they are going to remake a pearl like this one, which had TURN BASED COMBAT, it should REMAIN like that! It was one of the many things people loved about this game, so it would be stupid to change it.

Normally I'd be quite cynical about this game, but even I must admit that it looks good. It reminded me a bit of BF2. I'm looking forward to the eventual open beta!

The first 11 or 12 missions are played as Nero in the main story. Then you take controll of Dante and follow his side of the story. Afterwards you switch back to Nero again.
