I think you are getting it wrong... Sony buying small studios and big studios is fine and that is why you can guarantee diversity in games on your ecosystem... And another thing you are forgetting is the fact that Sony has more experience than Microsoft when it comes to big things out of less capable studios and make them big... I don't get it... there is no such thing as a strategy to beat the Xbox... Sony just release high quality games that is the way to beat the competition... It's not a win win as you are saying... it's a double edged sword because people will prefer to play Ghost of Tsushima on a high end PC than on a limited PS5 and sales of the console will go down for sure and for the time being I don't think Sony is in a position to turn the Playstation business into a platform like Microsoft is doing with the Xbox, Microsoft has that capacity and Sony doesn't that's why the strategy worked for them so well for 25 years... ESA and E3 are not focused on games... it's just a regular business to them, inviting celebrities etc. Nintendo and Sony don't see that as a added value and in other hand it shows how PlayStation is relevant'and they can exist on their own...
Instead of using the money to produce games... and let the games talk by itself ...
It's good now because it's convenient for Microsoft and all the media outlets that are being paid by them... But Sony will show the industry again what really matters.

I've been telling this since ever that no matter how many studios MS buy they can't compete on the same level... now watch the video from minute 20:05 when she asks "About the trust and his vision" and he says that it's not the video game way it's the Sony way... Sony knows how to handle game development in a better way it's not just about the talent of their teams it's how they really feel about the industry and it's outcomes...
