This will not make existing players obsolete. Toshiba has cinfirmed that a simple firmware update will allow all existing players to read these new discs.

Read the above link for your evidence. Toshiba made the A1 series players work with a firmware update. This will not make existing players obsolete, it will make them better.
Blu-Ray ...
You fanboys amaze me. You want to boycott Paramount at first, and now you want to buy their DVDs in mass quantities???? You are doing the exact opposite from boycotting. Don't buy Transformers, don't rent Transformers, don't tell anyone how good Transformers is. Just go to your hole and shutup. If you buy the DVD, you are still giving Paramount your hard earned money. You may as well get the HD DVD version. You'll be supporting them all the same.
The new Camaro kicks all kinds of a$$. I will be getting one in January 2009 when they come out because they are SICK. Beetle???? It might be true to the original, but it would have still made him a gay character. Nobody wants Gay-formers. Switching Bumble-Bee to a 'Maro was an incredibly smart move. It also got some major support form GM to do this. I bet Volkswagen would not have been so "supporting".
Get a life and quit swinging on their nuts already.
Of course 360 is being outsold by PS3 in Japan - it's Japan. If you can watch cartoon porn on it, they'll buy it. Case in point, PS3. Also, Japanese people hate American products that are competing with their own. Unfortunately Americans, for the most part, lack the capacity to return the favor.
As far as being outsold in the rest of the world, use your head a little. The 360 has been out for about 2 years ...
Just because it makes more sense to put it in a laptop than a PC doesn't mean it makes sense in a general sense.
That would be like saying crapping on the bathroom floor makes more sense than crapping on the living room floor because it is close to the toilet. The reality is, both don't make any sense, and they're pretty gross too, lol.
Neither format is able to win the place as next gen DVD in people's homes until some new marketing is done.
However, one format can beat the other. This is a showdown, or a battle of pride, at this point.
This Christams, HD DVD will stomp Blu-Ray - no doubt about it. Blu-Ray has Spider-Man 3 and Pirates 3, but it will still cost much more than HD DVD in terms of players and the movies themselves. The lower price, and the Paramount deal will make waves. Transf...
Nobody buys a PC to watch movies, especially high definition movies. This is only going to raise the price, which is bad - this thing is very expensive.
On another note, so you guys don't think I'm hating on Sony, Toshiba made a dumb move putting HD DVD drives in its laptops. I guarantee the attach rates will be pathetic for both PCs.
The attach rates are highest for home theatre/television sets - not laptops. Instead of doing this kind of business, Sony and/o...
I think this is probably the best FPS in history. I have played a lot of FPS games, and in its day and age, it stood out more than Gears of War does in this day and age.
I had many late weekends because of this game. I would also like to state that I have never lost a single game in multiplayer (with the exception of "you only live twice").
Best FPS ever, and maybe the best game ever.
You're a fu**ing moron, dude. The attachment rates are true - I'm sorry if reading them hurts.
I have a Blu-Ray3 and an HD DVD player. My Blu-Ray3 (PS3) is absolute garbage. Wow, I can watch movies on it, just wow. Definitely worth $500, right? Not even close. HD DVD is going to win and Disney, Fox, Universal, Sony, and Paramount are all anti-consumer by your logic. None of them give consumers an HD choice. Until you protest Disney, Fox, and Sony, leave Paramount alone. ...
Why do you mods keep letting this exact same thing get posted? I have seen 20 threads about how paramount has shafted the consumer.
You know - Sony guys run this board and approve anything that makes something against Sony look like an act of Satan.
Here's the truth, If Paramount is anti-consumer, so is Sony, Fox, Disney and Universal. Why pinpoint Paramount? As everyone knows, Sony is anti-consumer.
The attach rate of Blu-Ray is around .5 movie...
would actually read the blu-ray.com message board post referring to this exact subject, you will see that my source for the rumor is indeed bluray.com
There is no trolling here - I said it is a reported rumor. I did not say it was fact, nor was it my opinion. Rumors should be taken with a grain of salt.
Ignore me all you want. The attach rate is poor, and Warner has been in bed with Toshiba and Microsoft for far too long. The 360 marketplace even promotes &qu...
Want to hear how pathetic attach rates are for PS3, errr I mean Blu-ray 3?
PS3 units sold: 4.2 million
Blu-Ray movies sold : 2.2 million
That is just barely over 1/2 of a movie per PS3 owner, so you do the math on attachment rates - Blu-Ray is already dead, you just don't know it yet.
EDIT: I love how many disagrees this post of cold, hard fatcs has. Jesus, you Playstation fanboys are disagreeing with factual attachment rates??????!?!??!?...
Death of Blu-Ray??? You decide.

There have been too many rumors that Warner wil be going exclusive friday along with the paramount effort in an attempt to end the format war and push one format to consumers this Christmas, and really push an HD format for consumers to feel comfortable with.
If Warner goes to HD DVD exclusive, then it's over. HD DVD won, right then and there. They have incentive to go HD DVD exclusive, and not Blu-Ray. They have more money invested into HD DVD, they may detect a wounded Blu-...
One of the Warner studios big-wigs stepped down tonight, and rumor has it that he is being replaced by this guy:

If Paramount and Toshiba were to play this the smartest way they could, they should do the following:
Release "Transformers" on an HD DVD/DVD combo disc only, and not regular DVD whatsoever. If they do this, and promote the movie well via television commercials, everyone who wants the DVD will have to pick up the combo disc. Most consumers will be enlightened to the existence of the combo disc, and buy more, while building their HD DVD collection. Plus, once they h...
"TROLL"
360 has no good games? Get you fanboy head out of your a$$.
As far as the Wii, it isn't in the same league as the PS3 or the 360, so who cares. Most people have a Wii and 1 of the other 2 consoles. The Wii is a supplementa game system that offers something different - I have no beef with the Wii. Let them sell 300 million units - I'll be glad for Nintendo.
However, I did not give birth to HD DVD, lol. People always have the option of standard DVD for a long time coming.
Why do I want Sony to lose? I'll tell you plain and simple. They are using monopolistic tactics and "spun" information to misinform the gullible to try and push their Blu-Ray agenda onto the consumer. They bought off Fox, and Disney. So, nobody has the right to be mad at Toshiba for buying off Paramount, but for some reason, Blu-Ray fanboys now hate Par...
To the 2 posters above - you guys support Blu-Ray because you have a PS3, and for no other reason. That bitter taste in your mouth is the taste of defeat. We'll see what happens over the next 2 crucial Christmas seasons with this war.
Don't you guys feel a little abandoned by Sony? I mean, they have the ability to make some great games - I have enjoyed several, but so far, the PS3 is not a game console - Sony has been pushing Blu-Ray movies and not PS3 games. The PS3 was ne...
As far as the Blu-Ray has been made in 200GB argument - stop the crap.
Both Blu-Ray discs and HD DVD discs have been made to hold 500GB each. It just matters how you write the info to the disc - not the format.
But, in the end, what really matters is that these 51GB discs will see store shelves, and all the talk from the Blu-Ray camp will end right there - talk. It will never be a reality in your home movie collection. You can drop your "Blu-Ray is superi...
