@TBONEJF - LG hasn't made a 100Gb Blu-ray disc. It's Sony, Pioneer, TDK & Sharp that all have. Pioneer has gone further and has 20 layer 500Gb Blu-ray discs.

Sony know how much the tech costs and have priced it, so they don't lose money.
Just cos Ninty packs crap hardware into 3DS overprices it, then decides to drop the price cos it does'nt sell, does'nt mean Sony should reduce it's price.
Not worth it, as you get no valid warranty. And the online features are likely to region locked. 3G service providers likely to be different for different countries. So probably wouldn't even work.

It was tried sort of with 3DO, with each manufacturer making there own hardware too the same spec, so they could run the same games. It never caught on then, why would it now.
The whole point of consoles is easy of use. Stick the disc in and boot and play.
PC's can have all sorts of hardware/memory incompatibilty problems. So clearly not newbe friendly.
@Bigpappy - There is always a dip in sales when a new SKU is released. Since it takes time for stocks to come thru to retail. Retail would be ruuning out of old SKU PS3's. Hence the low numbers. Next coming weeks PS3 numbers will pick up.
BTW PS3 still continues to out sell 360 worldwide even with a dip in sales.
