I really don't think an equivalent API is out there, or will be any time soon.
MS really has the edge in the catagory, although others have been catching up.
I really hate the market fragmentation.

You guys REALLY think it's going to be using DirectX11 (A Microsoft windows technology?)
I'm calling BS on this article.

I had this idea years ago, but instead of having balls all over it, come one guys get creative.
No one wants that...

Battlefield 3 screams quality, but still doesn't sell as much.
I don't get it.

I consider the Wii U a primer...
Not next gen, but it's laying down the base coat for the shiny stuff.

Alaska would be a better environment.
With the forest, glaciers, lakes, massive peaks...
I can only imagine the possibilities.

I wasn't going to play ME3, but then it was 12 bucks on sale...
Now it's in line, but others have priority.

Don't worry. Another year and the new consoles will be looming and things will be a little bit more balanced between pc and consoles again. For a few years.
Some console games do have fantastic textures. It's possible with the right engine.
Don't be dissing the consoles, especially when it's a platform neutral article.

ha ha. That is sooo true. Resident Evil 2 scared the crap out of me. There really are no games out there that are truly terrifying these days...
I never found tomb raider to be scary...until the t-rex! ha ha. And that was like 10 minutes in...
Great times. :)
I still hate the controls though :p
Picking up a flare has never been so hard.

The first few games, while great in their day, really don't hold up today.
The controls, man, the controls.
Side note, huge Tomb Raider fan. Have owned everyone one.

Glad it made it back.
I play the game on occasion still, but I have a few other games I'm trying to get through.
I've always really liked the rush mode. I feel like BFBC2 did it a little better, but I still really like it.
Objective based modes are where it's at for me.
Otherwise, I play conquest typically.

Is rush mode included in this pack?
Was pretty irritated when I learned (after purchase) there were no rush maps on close quarters. Haven't been back since...

I don't like the look of the main character, but everything else looks phenomenal.
I look forward to playing it myself. Sure it's different, but we need that these days. fPS are getting old...

I really like this game,
but it runs like ARSE on PC.
Quad core@3.8ghz, 4gb ram, and a 2gb 7870 video card and it still drops into the 30's...

Bastion for sure.

You can't write an article like this without mention of bastion and Rayman Origins.
Recent, yes. Amazing, yes.

I see what you're saying, but even if they wait another year, PC's will still evolve 2 more generations (graphics cards and cpu's tend to have 2 gen per year), so really it wouldn't help them cost wise. No matter when they release it, they will probably be 2-4 years behind the most current tech.
BUT, that doesn't really matter. Even at 2 years behind, they technology that will be available is phenomenal.
I don't think they'll raise game costs, and ...

Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to see the next consoles run that well (I'll be buying either a PS4 or 720, depending on the hardware) but graphics are not improving as fast as they used to.
With the resolutions we're running at (1080p and up), you can double the power of your graphics card and only see a tiny bit of a performance boost (10-20fps?). Normally, it takes about a 4x boost in power to double the visual fidelity at around 1080p.
Back when consoles were...
