I work in a similar industry and there are occasional night staff people, but typically everyone gets in around 10:00 AM. My job has required me to come in at 9AM and stay until 1AM. How does one do it? Coffee, lots of coffee.

I don't know of any video stores to rent games, but redbox or gamefly. Redbox is definitely cheaper as PS Now prices stand, but games at redbox require picking up and dropping off as well limited quantity/location.
Honestly I find $30 for 3 months to be a fair deal. It's half retail and a good length of time to beat the game at a leisurely pace.
I hate these 'We' articles..You don't speak on my behalf. I own a Playstation console because I prefer the exclusives. If I really cared for Halo, Gears, Crackdown, Fable, or Ryse I would have purchased an Xbox One instead. I'm not saying those games suck, just not my cup of tea. Evidently the author thinks otherwise.
I wouldn't play Halo if it was on PS4. I don't care for the franchise, that's a good reason why I own a PS console over an Xbox.
