If you think that they should do away with used games then you clearly don't know that they don't really make a difference to the sales of those games.
The people who buy used games in most cases would not bother with the new copies if there were no used games. Used games are cheaper (generally, unless the pricing structure of the store is crap) and that's why people take a chance on them.

$299 is too cheap for something with half decent specs and I expect the 720 to be competing with the PS4 in that area. $299 is highly unlikely.
Not to mention that it was only a Playstation event and everyone knows that the majority of big new games are announced at E3.

There's no point in any comparison with what happened with the Wii and the PS2 as those could easily afford to drop price. The PS3 doesn't have that luxury.
