I think the part where you say that the AAA titles would be dead in the water is the other way around. What I'm trying to say is that new consoles need to be released with strong games to back them up, because that's what's gonna convince people to buy them (I waited to get my PS3 until Metal Gear 4 came out), but if big titles are released for the current console at the same time of the new one, then the console is gonna suffer on sales. I personally think that I'm not ready ...
I think HS only had big sales because it was starting lineup for the PS3, but if it was released like around now it would flop miserably.
They should have just named it something else, but instead they are relying on a well established franchise's name to make their game, disregarding the series origins completely and disrespecting fans. And don't give me that "I don't care for sales" bs, because if that was so then you wouldn't be calling DMC to rely on fanbase for sales.

If Sony people got smart about it, and a little douchie too, they would release God of War 4 for or with the PS4, that would force a huge boost in sales if they decide to release the console. Sorta like a big fat fishing hook.
I know a lot of people that spend a lot of time on Home, I even have some friends that only go in there for home and sometimes play other games. I myself don't like it much, but there is a lot of people that do.

The biggest issue here is that we gamers have gotten used to accept whatever crap developers throw at us, wether if its unjustified or overpriced dlc, or faulty unfinished and glitchy games or consoles and we are just gonna take it and say "oh well nothing we can do about it". No they don't. You are probably thinking of how videogames and movies work since yes, on some titles, if successful enough, R&D for next title begins, but consoles are a very different thing. I remember when the PS3 was released there was even talks from Sony about it being the last console they developed, because the costs are so high and the time it takes for people to transition could mean a huge loss for the company.
