I think The Last Of Us movie, which is being written by the same person who wrote the game's dialogue, will serve as proof movie adaptions of games are worthwhile. It seems directors of films based on games fail to understand how far the medium has come - which is why time and time again there are so many of these awful movies.
Have some great memories of local multiplayer as recently as Call of Duty: World at War. Hope it lives on through this generation of consoles.
The Frankie Boyle cameo in GTA is brilliant, it's a pity they didn't get him back for GTAV.
Agreed, it's a shame getting a meaty text insight to the game you're about to play is only available for people who fork out for the collectors edition.
The Wii U has been a disaster for Nintendo but I do think they'll bounce back - their IP's still appeal to a lot of people.
Wouldn't say Nintendo lost its hardcore audience with the Wii, but in fact expanded their audience. There were still brilliant Super Mario and Zelda games for hardcore fans that incorporates motion controls well.
I'd say the failure of the Wii U is down to the console itself, not the legacy of the Wii.
Feel like there have been better games so far this year. Bloodborne and Witcher 3 both felt like they really broke new ground, whereas Arkham Knight didn't stray too far from the Rocksteady formula. All are great games, but in my opinion other releases have innovation on their side.
Fully agreed. The developer's interaction with fans has been really admirable and people's appreciation for it has reflected in the sales.
Looking back, the Street Fighter X Tekken announcement was a hell of a shock. I can't really think of any other example of two competing franchises coming together like that.
I think Bloodborne has picked up where Dark Souls left off in reviving traditional, ultra-challenging games, whilst also using the technical capabilities of the PS4 to create a true cinematic experience.
It'll be hard to beat for game of the year.
Shadow of the Collosus is up there with the best games ever.
Nice to see a developer listen to their core fan-base and take a franchise into the direction they've been asking for.
Horror is a genre that really benefits from interactivity and therefore games have the potential to be far scarier than a film ever could be.
I think it's a sign of the industry moving forward that 'so bad it's good' dialogue is pretty rare these days, but I agree there's a certain charm to it.
The wider point about average dialogue is equally true, although there are more and more examples of it improving recently.
Plenty of examples of these to be fair, there aren't many heroes in video games that aren't essentially mass-murderers.
Glad I waited on reviews for Destiny, looks really repetitive and bland.
Wasn't that impressed with Killzone: SF or inFamous: Second Son (as a fan of both series), whereas Dead Rising 3 and Titanfall were both pretty strong.
I've always bought PlayStation consoles so perhaps could be accused of bias, but I do agree the messaging for Xbox One has been rather dire. The launch of the console really resembles the launch of the PS3 in terms of the mistakes Microsoft are making.
Still, I'd argue the Xbox One has a stronger set of games at the moment.
I think you're always going to get guilty pleasures in every medium (the comparison between Call of Duty and the Transformers film, for example, is a very valid observation), and I agree that the more games like Portal and The Last Of Us enter the public consciousness the more favorably games will be viewed upon.
Still, I'd argue Call of Duty has resulted in a lot of people trying video games for the first time and, hopefully, indirectly introduced them to more artist...
I thought 2014 was a really disappointing year across the board for games - Dragon Age: Origins won 'Game of the Year' awards across a lot of publications but for me didn't come close to RPG's like Skyrim, Mass Effect and The Witcher. It looks like we'll have a much better year this time around though - I can't wait to sink countless hours into Fallout 4 and the new XCOM.
