The need to make the writing seem more profound than it is (it isn't).
They can be if an awful section of a game is dragging too long and it does it repeatedly.
But overall, I'll just quote a Mitch Hedberg joke about distance:

I'm just glad I'm seeing comments agreeing that this is wildly stupid and should never happen to an actor. Though, there are also people "disagreeing" with those comments, which again makes me effing sad. Gamers can be the absolute worst.
Hell no! As a matter of fact, I felt mocked by her the entire time I was forced to play as her.
It was one of the most highly-anticipated sequels to one of the best, and most loved, games that have ever been made...
It was gonna' sell this way no matter what.
That does not mean it lives up to what the original was (not even close!).
Yeah, this is exactly how I feel. 7 (a soft 7) out of 10. It's a technical achievement with its graphics and a great gameplay experience with its set-pieces, but it's a story-focused game and its story is an infuriating, plothole-ridden drag -- drag due in part to Abby being so unlikable and the game forcing you to play as her (for 8 to 10 hours!) while also forcing you to feel empathetic towards her (ended up hating her more).
It's not a game I want to replay. ...

Being forced to play as Abby for that long and trying really hard to make us sympathize with her was one of the more excruciating experiences of my gaming life. She's not likable at all.
Everything was playing out like a classic until the Abby sections started. Hate it even more knowing there were some cool moments that would've been way more enjoyable were we playing as Ellie.
And that ending... screw that ending.
