If “the gaming community” doesn’t understand microtransactions in F2P games, then “the gaming community” needs to grow up and stop acting like entitled children. F2P games are like demos, if you want to play the whole game, it’s only fair you pay for it.
Paladins is free to play, so no.
@Why O Why
My point is that these companies have lots of options. Some that may actually be worst then micro transactions. I buy physical games whenever possible, I also buy “game of the year” editions, (in edition to having already bought the original) because I want “the whole game” dlc included, on physical media. I just worry that the boycotting might lead to something worst.
It also bothers me that some people whine about battlefront, but don’t compl...
@bluefox
Picture this scenario....
Digital games release first, physical releases weeks, maybe even months later, and costing TWICE as much, since they can be resold many times.
How do you feel about that?
Lol. Which console will sell more worldwide at the end of this generation?
Wouldn’t whiners cry “pay to win” then?
“Seriously guys we've got Anthem coming up and obviously in the far future Battlefront III”
If big budget games aren’t profitable, they won’t be made. I hate MTs as much as anyone else, I simply don’t spend my money on them.
Because these hypocrites don’t care about the Star Wars franchise.
They think they can “win” this problem of exuberant costs for AAA games, against insufficient revenue streams to support such budgets.
They won’t be satisfied until companies go all digital distribution, or don’t make their favorite games at all.
Don’t celebrate just yet, EA has plenty of options, they could raise game prices or release games through a digital distribution only model.
They could even do a combination of both, digital games $60 (with a one week early exclusive access incentive) or a “limited” (pre-order only) physical release for $100+
@DragonKnight
Why are you worried about someone else’s taxes? Do you pay more in taxes then you LEGALLY have to???
Indie games are great, but games like battlefront and Anthem are on a scale that requires millions of dollars.
EA paid developers for it to be made, they paid for the license, they paid to advertise it, they paid to publish the game, why shouldn’t they make ALL the profit?
Change your ways, cheapskate gamers. Why do you think EA offers services like EA pass? Because they want to make pennies on their games that cost them millions to make?
Or could it be, they are trying to compete with pre owned sales, by offering a cheaper option that they will at least see some revenue from?
Look at games like Cuphead and Ori and the blind forest. Keep buying used games, and games will go digital first, then MAYBE see a retail release.
...
@the kelrath
Are you seriously comparing a game as old as unreal and 1942 to games made today? Those games are at least 15 years old.
Sure you can make a game with 16 people, on a small scale, and release it within a decent time frame. But a game on the scale of Destiny and Anthem would take 10-15 years to release, with that small of a development team.
True you could save money by cutting some corners, (voice acting, cgi, motion capt...
Unfortunately, that’s true, because of used game sales. Damn those greedy capitalist, wanting to actually make a profit, so they can make us more games!!!
They don’t always make enough money. Look at dead space and mass effect. Video game pawn shops, and now large retail chains, are really hurting the industry with pre-owned sales. Today games cost as much, (sometimes more) as movies to make, yet have a smaller base of clientele. A clientele that’s made even smaller with used games. That’s why they cost so much. It’s math people.
Look at games like Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Hitman, Mega-man 9 & 10, Friday the 13th, G...
It’s a compromise, now you can level up and unlock heroes in enough time so you will be on an equal level with players who choose to buy the game after the release date, or don’t have as much time to play as others.
To the whiners, accept the facts, AAA games cost a lot of money, and cheapskates are going to force digital distribution only sooner then we want.
Now I regret putting money into this game.
@rpgsama
They will choose nothing, or digital distribution only.
@rainslacker
Unfortunately, Yes. The people who buy the game get screwed. The game couldn’t exist, unless it is profitable. That’s not greed, it’s math.
Here’s an unpleasant Truth, game publishers receive no revenue from pre-owned or rental sales.
Therefore publishers will include DLC, MT’s, subscriptions, or just plain increase the products price through “deluxe” and “legendary” editions.
That is, until they go digital distribution only.
So let me get this straight....
Battlefront is bad, but GTA5 and Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm and Madden and Player Unknown Battle Ground and Call of Duty WW2 and Destiny 2 and possibly Red Dead Redemption 2 are good?
Hypocrites.
