This is a great article. I had not seen the video he references from Total Biscuit so I watched that before reading this post and he makes some valid points. Game and in the US here GameStop are being too aggressive when it comes to used games. However the used game market is not just about buying, its about selling. Many people only buy new games however they still SELL old games to get those new ones. A point TB overlooked in his video.
I wouldn't say they were good things, they were conveniences. You had to sacrifice other rights for these conveniences. Some people don't care but if the PR was any indication a lot of people did.
I would believe this if after the announcement that GS opened up preorders again but that isn't the case. MS has a much more limited production amount than Sony. I would guess its because of the Kinect sensor being packed in as well. You can only make so many units.
Sony even pulled out of Japan for its launch window. This is a very rare (if ever) occurrence that a Japanese company is releasing products in EU and US first. This was because of the more competitive m...
Competition is what drives Steam sales, not DRM. If you think once we were all forced to go digital that they would pass those saving onto us as the consumer you are dead wrong. If anything once they have us hooked the prices would increase. Only through a healthy competitive market do we see better sales and deals.
This.
People are thinking too short term lately. Imagine wanting to play your favorite games 10 or 20 years later. There will be none if everything is digital and the host servers are shut down (Which we have seen a lot this generation as games age)
I had somehow, in all of my infinite web browsing had never seen this video. I was better off for it and now you have shattered that. You have taken my innocence. You monster.
I went to buy this today and the store is having massive issues. I have tried to buy it 3 times and every time it just kicks back to the store. One time I got to enter my info but it just did it again. Heavy downloading I assume.
I just got mine last week. I was really irritated that I would receive one only 2 weeks before retail when it was our support that made them what they are today. It really sucks you won't get yours before retail. That is unacceptable to me.
With that said the Ouya is what I thought it would be. Its not great, but not a piece of shit either. If I could go back I would probably not support it this time.
This is a great point and will be remembered long down the road like the Saturn launch debacle and the PS3 initial price point. Companies that listen and learn make us gamers winners in the end.
Have you played ME? You choose what he looks like.
Here is my response to that. That bar owner is shortsighted. If 4 guys come in and share a drink he has made money. Now if the drink is good and the service was good those people will return for another drink, and another, and another.
Sometimes you have to just enjoy the suspense. I would rather something like this than another interview with Geoff Keighley or a press release with standard details. In this day and age everyone wants everything so fast but we are really starting to forget that half the fun is the anticipation and the journey to get the game. Thats my opinion anyway. :)
Yea! Often times I heard about games from borrowing them from a friend and because they are good I bought the sequel day 1. So many people overlook how important that is.
I read the article, and I really have a problem with these people saying that used games hurt the market. There is no proof of this, and in fact there is plenty of proof the other way around. They say it so definitively yet offer no proof.
Here is my proof. The industry where it is today. There has been a healthy used market for over 25 years and the industry exploded. Why all of a sudden does it hurt them now?
Why does it always have to be one or the other? I have an awesome gaming PC and a PS3/360. If you can only afford one that doesn't mean you have to hate the others you can just want them.
Christ its like Ford vs Chevy all day around here lately. A real gamer likes good games no matter where they are played.
Your argument is the one that I think we see most anti used gamers use. Here are a few things to consider.
What kma2k is referring to is that GameStop reports how much trade in credit is applied to new game sales. See this link:

Secondly getting your product into the hands of the cons...
Not only was the size epic, it reached out to EVERY type of gamer. JRPGs? Check. Platformers? Check. Racing games? Check. FPS? Check. I loved the N64 and its 4 player focus but the PS2 was a system for EVERY gamer.
I have love for both but the PS2 will go down in history as one of the most influential systems of all time.
I was never a fan of Adam Sessler on G4TV and Tech TV back in the day. I always felt he was so stiff and scripted, and trying so hard to make gamer jokes. He didn't seem to belong imo.
HOWEVER I am really enjoying his stuff on Rev 3 as he seems to be more himself. He is intelligent, well spoken, and makes sense. This video is another great example.
thats a good question, and the answer is yes. The common argument is that people think if the companies make more money they will bring the price down. No company on earth EVER has said "hey since we have all this money lets start lowering prices to get less money"
They are always looking for ways to maximize profits and killing used games is what they think is right, even though they all are looking so short term into the future. Getting your game into a players...
Maybe its so advanced it has feelings now. Maybe it wears eyeliner and cuts itself while listening to Fall Out Boy.
THIS IS THE FUTURE! :)
