Yes, making money, even if just barely.
I find it VERY ironic that, for the entire four year period that the ps3 hardware sku was unprofitable there was no jailbreak.
Funnily enough, as soon as the ps3 hardware becomes profitable, a jailbreak hack magically 'appears' - apparently 'magically 'sourced' from a Sony employee - that will maybe 'increase' ps3 sku sales.
Had the jailbreak usb 'appeared' before the...
yeah exactly.
I am actually flabberghasted that there are still ps3 fans that cling to the 'ps3 never got hacked' line - like it matters.
Now we have a blogsite posting a made up story of how a fake hacker gained a fake unfair advantage by using fake Sony employees fake usb stick. Honestly, does it matter? Is that a soothing salve to be applied to all the shattered fanboy pride that held the ps3 as unhackable?
Fact is, there is now a ...

Quick question, pirate thom.
How do you know the hack was sourced from a stolen sony boot stick?
How do you know it was reverse engineered?
In fact, you don't know.
No one knows for sure.
furthermore... under what circumstances do you call any kind of hacking 'legitimate'?

Posting Spoilers in a comment is just lame, and has resulted in people getting banned.
Posting Spoilers as a contributor of a news story is just pathetic and, hopefully, will get treated accordingly.
Mods?
Dude, you are not allowed to say that.
According to the ultra-Sony defenders on n4g, NO-ONE uses ps3 linux.
According to the ultra-Sony defenders on n4g, NO-ONE misses ps3 linux.
Don't you dare insinuate that you are one of the heathens that did use it and was disadvantaged by its removal!

@ morganfell.
Actually, you do not know that the usb was stolen, nor do you know that the software on it was stolen, nor do you know that the software was reverse engineered.
That being the case, Sony will need to prove in a court of law that these events actually transpired, before anything can be declared illegal.
What's more, the law varies from country to country with regard to the legal interpretation of the alleged circumstances. <...
The very fact that we are on this video game forum speaks volumes of the fact that we are hardcore gamers, interested in the industry.
As a hardcore gamer, I am definitely interested in kinect - not for kinectimals - but for the fitness aspect of certain games, such as boxing and 'fitness evolved'.
I, for one, do not like the idea of holding peripherals in my hand while jumping and boxing in my lounge. A quick search on youtube reveals a frightening p...
Fact is, Sony did not respect the copyright.
They need to eat humble pie and remove the reference to the trademarks and copyrights of Siena.
End of story.
I find it so ironic that we have most people on n4g decrying the use of the ps3 jailbreak hack in breaking PS3 copyright laws .... yet when Sony breaks Siena copyright laws we suddenly reverse course and say Sony>Siena - even suggesting that Sony will 'punish' Siena for their insolence? ...
omg did you REALLY just say that?
Just so you can go to sleep at night and tell yourself:
"Noooo... the ps3 is unhackable"?
Really?
http://doginmypocket.com/Fu...
@ anime-vixen.... agreed.
The article is about comparing a hacked ps3 to a modded xbox1.
That's a new angle and, going by the comments and temperature, a higly interesting topic for many in the N4g community.
There are potential benefits to the 'PS3-hack/xbox1-mod' too.
As was the case for the xbox1, a ps3JB user could legally backup his games (which he owned) onto the harddrive and play them from the HDD, with faster load...

Yes, PS3 got hacked, Halo got leaked.
Which is worse?
Still, not a good day for the industry in any case
Yeah it really does seem TOO easy, doesn't it?
Yet, all the evidence points to the 'unhackable ps3' being hacked - twice.
First Geohotz, now usb hack.
Where will it end?
SHould we expect more ps3 hacks appearing soon?
I agree that they are seemingly very popular and i DO like the look.
I am guessing people disagreed because you referred to the finish as 'matte'.
It's not 'matte' - it's glossy.

It's not like they can remove USB ports via firmware upgrade like they did with Linux and Geohotz.
What's more, if they update their firmware, what's to stop users from upgrading their jailbreak usb too?
If this is true, then all the people that said the ps3 couldn't be hacked will be eating a very large humble pie.
Not good news for Sony at all.
Ironically, I PREDICTED only two days ago that more hacks were coming 5632d ago 8 agree14 disagreeView comment
lolwut?
"...Tried playing the same game on PS3? We have. It’s an abortion. Horrible frame rate (2 or 3 frames per second in places), poor texture quality, bad pop-up and fogging."
Hmmm.
It seems the ps3 really struggled with the frame rates in DA.
I guess that might be a genuine reason, given it's from the same developer?
That is the reason Sony removed Linux.
That also proves the ps3 was hackable.
However, instead of addressing the issue via security updates, Sony simply saw fit to remove a feature that ps3 owners paid for, to foil the successful hack.
I am a little concerned about this precedent, actually.
It has been shown that the ps3 is definitely hackable.
Thus it is only a matter of time until another hackable feature is found and exploited in t...
Are you kidding me? Killzone3 looks good, but nowhere near Crysis2.
Crack addiction.
It's ugly.

Yeah, isn't it amazing that ME2 PS3 has been forgotten amidst Ps3 jailbreak?
What does that tell you?
