I think everyone knew that the xbone was going to sale. People continued to buy the 360s even after the RROD was proven to be known about before the release of the 360.
The truth is you can bet that the PS4 lead will increase as time goes on. The PS brand is bigger than the xbox brand.
Common sense would tell you that M$ released in all the major territories that sell the most.
360 sold 45+m in NA and 25+m in Europe
That 1.2m lead could easily be caught if people in NA decided to purchase the xbone.
Also M$ could release in other territories if it wanted to. It's obvious they have enough xbones, seeing as the xbone can be found just about everywhere right now. The demand has falling for the xbone that's why it's falling ...

The fact of the matter is that the Xbone is not selling as fast as the PS4. Most likely the people are buying the Xbones that have been sitting on the shelves, while the PS4 are selling out as soon as they become available.
