While you are correct that these are not "remakes", updating the resolution and adding trophies are not the only changes with the remasters. Most of them are also fixing any glitches and ensuring the games run at a constant 60 FPS.
It's up to the developers, but others add extra content as well. Not to mention some of them are even getting 3D and/or Move support.

I've accepted the fact that RE has turned into an action game. I'm not expecting the horror game that I got with RE1, which in my opinion was the most survival horror of all of them. It was very isolated to the mansion which made it scary.

It's more than that though. Most of these articles are not straight up talking about Sony incurring losses. They are written up to imply that Sony is a failure. Every company is going to have it's ups and downs, but people make it sound like this is the end of Sony.
Microsoft reported it's first losses ever as a company which I think is more significant story, but I don't see multiple stories about it.

Because people are just DYING for any news that might indicate the death of Sony. I have no idea, but it's been clear all generation that people want Sony to fail and look for anything that might indicate their failure regardless of how much of a stretch.
Brosy, Sony has shown that their business model is long term. I'm sure that's what they'll do for the PS4. Even if the PS4 comes out within the next couple of year, people will be buying PS3's well into the next gen just like they did with PS2's.

I'm not defending Microsoft here at all because I'm fully aware of Microsoft's track record of being completely hit or miss with things, but wasn't Gabe also trashing the PS3 a few years ago? Then he showed up at E3 last year and ate crow?
There is a lot going on behind an OS beyond what you see as the user interface. Especially for a game developer that has to utilize everything that you can't see.

It doesn't matter if it's made from different parts. The fact that Microsoft willingly released a known broken console just so they could be first to market is reason enough for me to avoid them. Their customer's shouldn't suffer just so that they can get a jump start.

They have been catching up the whole time, meaning even though they started later they've been gaining because they're selling more consoles. Regardless of what the current totals are Sony is selling more month to month and catching up, eventually taking the lead. I have a feeling that as soon as the next Xbox comes out sales will virtually stop, whereas PS3's will continue to sell.
