It may be sold out in certain locations but I was just at Walmart and Target shopping today and each store had 5 kinects that I seen.
It actually seems Target had them strategically placed, there was only one in the Kinect section at the end of the aisle by the games to try and grab the "on the fence" type of gamer who would grab it just because of the illusion of it being in high demand/low quantities and then as I was getting ready to check out they had 4 of them ...

If it makes you feel better, I also got a 60gb PS3 on launch and a slim when it was released. As a matter of fact, I prefer my PS3 over the 360 by a long shot.
360 was $299 for the core and $399 for the 20gb. I remember because I bought the core on launch day.
