TV's are gigantic on average now compared to the past when crowding around an old crt for splitscreen worked just fine. If anything, splitscreen is more of a viable option on today's tv's than ever before. Plus it is a more social way of playing together that a lot of people enjoy. Add to that the fact that it's been a standard feature of Halo for ages.....there is no reason for it not to have been there at launch ( along with a shitload of other staple standard content ). But...
