By all accounts they plugged the leak quickly so they did a good job in that regard.

I still believe there is a pervasive culture at Naughty Dog and other studios where gruelling crunch hours and conditions are just being ‘expected’ of employees and more needs to be done to stand up for said employees. Now the rumours of a disgruntled employee have been proven to be wrong, it will not stop me writing articles or commenting on the situation in gaming that leads to so many developers taking a physical and mental toll to bring us the games we love...
I don’t believe anyone is an idiot for believing an employee acted emotionally and irrationally as a response to mistreatment or a pay dispute, in fact it’s plausibility is exactly what got the rumour so much traction. To dismiss something without any thought due to company loyalty is the idiotic thing in my mind. Alas, it’s good to know now what was really behind it and we fans all hope the hackers are punished for their actions.
Angry ND employee, Portuguese disc printing, Hackers, we heard a few different rumours and it’s good to keep an open mind and not dismiss any outright without consideration but Jason as we all know clearly has sources so in terms of weightiness and veracity we can quite safely say it was hackers now and us all as fans can wish a punishment is delivered swiftly.
"Company provides multiple codes for each platform." That's not what Smart Delivery does. You buy the game on any of the SKUs out of X1, X1X and XSX and that version of the game will automatically run on any SKU you own without the need of redeeming any other separate version that's the difference it's that smart efficiency. Let's not forget how huge Cyberpunk 2077 is, AC Valhalla and I'm sure we'll hear about many more supporting it next week. Microsoft is l...
There is a difference. The difference is the ‘Smart’ part of Smart Delivery. Cross buy meant if you bought the PS3 version you’d get the vita/PS4 version too, cool. Smart delivery acts much in the same way as Cross buy except it automatically detects which Xbox you’re playing your owned game on (X1, X1X, XSX) and it delivers the appropriate resolution etc. For that console. Which is useful if you have more than one SKU. This is something cross-buy didn’t extend into.

Console market no and I don’t think Phil expects that either. Hardware matters less than it used to now, the growing importance of a digital ecosystem and services is the future. These companies are all well placed to make a foray into this sector, not hardware, which is the inspiration for speculation like this.
It could be misdirection to avoid having to provide a comment on the existing competition, that’s an interesting take. I do also genuinely believe as the bigger, more resourceful companies Microsoft will see more competition from the likes of Amazon, Facebook etc. Especially with Amazon vs Microsoft in the cloud services/gaming sector.
All I keep seeing is stories about Naughty Dog devs jumping ship and joining other studios, this extends beyond any one team and seems to be a studio wide problem. I’m sure one of their animators was hospitalised due to the working conditions. And some had an almost fatal accident after a pipe collapsed as they were working so late and some construction started since they assumed all the employees would’ve left already. Honestly people ignoring and downplaying this issue make me sick, these p...
My narrative is that mistreated workers in the industry as a whole needs more attention and we gamers who love the games they make need to start making more noise for them instead of ignoring it. You can find my piece “Revenge Leaks Suck But Employee Mistreatment in Gaming Still Needs Addressing’ at ThisGenGaming.
I agree, it’s not that what they’re doing that’s groundbreaking but the vibe they’re giving off. In 2013, them going first was out of cockiness and misguided decisions. The vibe this time is of earned confidence, there’s a feel good factor this time that they’re genuinely excited to show off and do everything first, it’s the tone that’s changed.
I agree as a PlayStation fan I feel absolutely starved right now, Microsoft are exuding a confidence right now in always showing stuff first and I’m getting a vibe of anxiety from PlayStation’s side so yeah I’m hoping they start showing stuff soon because at the moment they’re letting Microsoft have the stage to themselves.
The two subjects are completely unrelated? The entire rumour has been about a pay dispute and gruelling crunch conditions how on Earth are they unrelated?? Gosh people love the game so much but care so little for the well-being of the people who make it for you. Such a shame.
When we think video games are more important than a person’s life...
After years of high employee turnover and reports of employee mistreatment, the only wrongdoing you care about is that done to Sony and ND from a rumour? Jeez.
When there’s smoke, there’s often fire. This could all be made up, or Sony’s PR team recognise the danger of bad press right before a game launch and want to kill any rumours. We don’t know, but anyone who blindly believes a statement like this whilst not leaving open the possibility of deception is a corporate shill.
Someone here who saw the story leaks involuntarily, it makes me wish they left it at The Last of Us as I now fear this sequel will taint the stories legacy.
There’s more to this story. Anyone that blindly believes what a big corporation tells them without even a trickle of doubt need to be a bit more open-minded.
I think the series needs a bit of a break but there’s a big part of me reluctant to let it go and I hope it can return is some form a few years down the line, maybe Drake plays a sort of Sully whilst his daughter is the main character? I’m not sure but I’m not quite ready to let go.
