Yeh there is no way there are 35 souls-like games that are worth playing. Very very few souls-like are actually even souls-like.
They just throw that term around if you die and lose something. The Souls games are unique and freaking great for a lot more than just that one detail.

The industry needs all 3 of the big ones (Sony, MS and Nintendo) to all continually shoot for the top spot and never let up. When all 3 are consistently pumping out great exclusives it'll be great for all of us.

I agree with that but I also believe no souls clones come anywhere near the atmosphere, environments and enemy designs either.
The lies of P however does look at least so far to nail the atmosphere. And if the combat is as good and hopefully as deep as it looked in the trailer then soulsaborne might finally have some real competition for a first time.
The ray tracing in Guardians of the Galaxy on ultra is easily some of the best I've seen and with DLSS I still always get 60+ fps.
They certainly F'd up but at least they're coping to it and giving the untouched originals for free as a "we're really sorry" gesture.
They clearly know they really hurt their image as a dev you can count on.
I've been playing it on PC with everything maxed and imo it's graphically and stylistically one of the best looking games I've seen in a while.
I'm really surprised that I don't see anyone ever mention that being another high point of the game alongside the great writing. Maybe I'm just a sucker for the design and style of it.

It's actually bad for the industry that people are paying that much for such a bare bones online system. It just tells them it's OK and very profitable to do less but sell more. Bad for buyers and good for sellers.
I played DOOM on pc with a friend in the 90s and I didn't have to pay anyone outside my phone company to do it. Nintendo's online system barely has more features than that and it was 30 years ago.

Yeh right before Returnal I had just worn out Hades with probably well over a hundred hours of playtime.
I think going from Hades to Returnal hurt how I felt about Returnal. It was fun but the weapon variety and upgrades just felt too limited in comparison to other top tier Rogue-likes. Dead Cells being a great example of variety.
