Obviously you've never tried VR before. If you had, you'd be bored with ever seeing anything on a flat screen TV ever again. I've never tried Morpheus so I can't speak on that but I have tried Occulus DK2 and let me tell you, this VR stuff is going to set the world on fire.
Imagine sitting in a virtual theater (in VR) watching 100FT screen. Your brain can't tell the difference. How about the porn industry? I won't go any further explaining how just th...
Sorry mixelon but lots of good people lose their jobs when leadership fails. Good people usually find a better place once the dust settles. The right thing to do in this situation if you are Gawker is to stop the bleeding by firing all the journalists involved, and ensure that no one in that position can contribute financially to game developers. Then for the love of god stop insulting your customers and readers. Problem is the people running the show at Gawker apparently believe all gamers a...
It takes work to care about anything. But don't whine about corruption when you expect everyone else to do the policing for you.If you are a gamer you should care since these folks are impacting the games you love with their social justice garbage. Also you should be tired of being branded a mysoginist, homophobic, while these morally bankrupt "journalists" can't show an ounce of professionalism. Perhaps you'll care when your favorite game characters are turned female fo...
Wow, so he speaks out against Occulus being purchased by Facebook because they supposedly sold out. Then he turns around and sells to Microsoft? Talk about hypocritical.
You're really comparing a 3K TV to 300 dollar VR device?
True Kinect could make VR more immersive but it isn't accurate enough for finger tracking which the next big innovation needed. I'm not talking palm open palm closed but individual finger tracking. Where move excels is it is cheaper tech and has less latency than Kinect. I use Kinect Fitness and the lag is still visually noticeable where Sports Champions feels 1:1 with movements.
Ok so picture the halodeck from StarTrek. Virtual Reality will be like that within 5 years. You will get lost in your games. I've tried VR first hand and please let me tell you that you owe it to yourself to keep an open mind. It will be as big as color TV, microwaves and cellphones.
Statements like these will enter the annals of history along with gems like 'why would anyone want a personal computer?' and 'everyone knows money is made on the hardware.' ...
Cliffy is much like Jaffe. They make sweeping statements to get people talking about them. Their personalities are larger than the games they make. They want the respect that Kojima or Miyamoto get but haven't really earned it. Cliffy is the Michael Bay of game making, He makes big loud, fun games that are all flash and little substance. He doesn't realize that if he were to act humble and continuously create great games over a long span of time he would get the attention and praise...
Facebook took a page right out of the Microsoft handbook. Basically purchase a company before it becomes your competition. Whatsapp was becoming huge outside of the U.S. If Microsoft could have predicted that Apple or Google would become true competition for them in emerging markets wouldn't it be worth it to acquire them?
Oculus purchase is another matter entirely. Facebook were the last ones on the boat during the mobile phone revolution. They don't want that to ha...
Remember both Occulus and Morpheus aren't finalized yet. The retail product should be less bulky, and lighter weight.
I won't say you are wrong since this is your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it. Just keep an open mind. Having tried the HD version of Occulus Rift (prior to DK2) just believe me when I say once you try it, your mind will be blown. It looks so unimpressive when you watch it off screen. I thought the same thing when looking at Occulus demos until I tried it. The sense of depth is absolutely indescribable.
They just need this:

Won't happen though since Carmack is interested in glove/wrist free finger tracking.
AR and VR will be combined in 5 to 10 years when a front facing camera can track a room and its objects at 60-90 fps and in HD. Imagine if you will a Morpheus/Occulus with a front facing camera which detects real life rooms and objects in your home and then instantly motion tracks in perfect perspective 3d generated objects, monsters and such. Imagine playing something like COD zombies where you use your real windows and doors to fight incoming intruders. Imagine hammering imaginary nails and...
Having tested both SD and HD occulus rift you can always tell when someone hasn't based on their opinion. VR is the future. Try it once and you'll find 2D interfaces so dull that you'll feel as though you are stuck in the past. Every game you play today, you'll begin to imagine how awesome it would be in VR. It's impossible to explain, almost describing sex to a virgin.
I'm betting Pachter is a VR virgin.
So I'll confidently counter Pachter's cl...
I guess you've only ever used the dev kit version where I could agree the blurring might get some people sick. The newest version which I've been fortunate enough to try out is incredible. They have reduced the blurring to the point where it is nearly non existent.
PLASTICA-MAN is correct. I was at E3 and my mind was blown at the behind closed door demo the dark sorcerer. They actually scanned in the actors and were able to keep details up to 10 micrometers (if I remember correctly). The demo had the presenter zoom all the way into the eyeball of the sorcerer and you could see the bump of his eyeball veins. I pre-ordered PS4 on the spot after picking my jaw up off of the floor. Anyone who hasn't seen this demonstration really has no idea just how in...
I'll just guess that this is probably meant to be Fulgore's background.
I think it is still very creepy that it can listen to you. Imagine if Kinect creates a list of key words that you use while it listens to your conversations through out the day? Then it could categorize and send that list back to Microsoft without you ever knowing. This list of key words or categories would be GOLD to advertisers.
For instance, If you are talking with your buddy in the vicinity of Kinect and mention "NHL", "Kings", "Stanley Cup" ...
I don't think the author of this article knows that God of War has always had platforming elements since way before Uncharted was doing it. The way the article reads, you might think God of War stole these platforming mechanics from Uncharted instead of the other way around. That is pretty uninformed. I agree with what Morganfell said, it is annoying when a journalist writes an article as an advertisement for another article/review that they've written. It is almost as though they are...
Anyone saying VR is a fad hasn't tried it. For those worried about not being able to see the real world, the final versions will almost certainly have an external facing camera which will allow you to switch video feeds to the outside world. Those saying that the headset appears clunky and heavy, again wait for the retail version which will be feather light and possibly even wireless. VR won't be for everyone, but if gaming is about immersion then your 60 inch 4K TV simply won't b...
