I agree wholeheartedly. What you are describing is called taking the "trimmed mean" which is exactly what they should do since one or two low or high scores shouldn't have the same effect as an average does. A trimmed mean of say 5%-10% would be a great way to keep everything fair.

I interviewed to work at Amazon once a year ago, (8hr. interview with 6 different people). I can tell you from my limited and totally biased experience, amazon looks upon its consumers with disdain. Everything they do is for profit. Seems obvious I'm sure, but I truly believe they'll screw over the consumer if it means profit.

I won't crucify you for not necessarily being aware of Unreal Engine's capabilities. But I'm a 3D artist and I was able to build CG quality architectural rendering in realtime with maybe 3 days worth of self teaching. It is incredible. It is super powerful and highly optimized. I can run it on a Macbook Pro with a low powered GPU and still get soft shadows, ambient occlusion, global illumination and decent antialiasing. It integrates with both Maya and 3dsMax seamlessly.

I work in software development, and let me tell you the limits you face today can be smashed through with a bit more time. Sometimes you have code things the wrong way several times before you find the most efficient solution. So yes, today the reflection was technical limitation given the choices that were made in other areas of the game. Tomorrow that limitation with a bit more time can easily be smashed through.
