If this happens it will be awesome, but I doubt the full library of steam games would be available. So it would be huge!

It's pretty much the same but different environment. I preferred 3 to 4 but that's just my own personal tastes.
Yes, this would be the best move for MS to make considering PC gets Windows online gaming at no added cost. Truly turn XBL gold into a service rather than a requirement.
But you get 4 games a month with it. In comparison to the current 12 month price tag of XBL is equivalent to 1 new game. Games with gold can net you 48 games in a year. Even if you don't want them all there's still some that are well worth it.
Not to mention a thrifty shopper can get 12 months of gold for as little as $35 USD or even cheaper around the holidays.
$499 sounds like a good conversion to me. But is that just the price of the headset or is that a bundle with all you need? My understanding is you need the PlayStation camera and some of the wands as well which some people already have. But for those that don't they may be extra purchases increasing to total costs to the end user.
Still cheaper than get ng an occulus and upgrading your computer to have the specs needed for that.

Phillips invented CDs as a storage medium. Toshiba invented DVD.
PC utilized these mediums for gaming long before Sony. Although Sony did invent Blu-ray, but not for gaming initially.
PC had free online before Sony ever made a console.
Wireless/rechargeable controllers were made by third parties long before Sony put them out.
PSVR only exists because of VR work ...
