It isn't about the cost savings. They admitted that at E3. It's about selling PS3 games.
They said they want to sell PS3 games to PS3 owners and PS2 games to PS2 owners.
Apparently, there are a lot of people who are still buying and playing mainly PS2 games on their PS3 (me, thank you Final Fantasy XII and Persona 3 FES).

Wow, that's a letdown after playing the 360 version. Not sure what I expected though.
There's a lot of background aliasing and much less detail... not to mention not being HD.
The 360 version was a thing of beauty. This is just a jagged mess.
Not sure what the point is. My PC is in my study. My 360 is sitting on top of my HDTV.

Since the majority of 360 owners have far less than 20GB of space available and MS charges an arm and a leg for an HD upgrade, I sure hope they're not mandatory.
