Whether you like it or not, there is a quality difference in a Dell or HP and an Apple laptop. You may not think the price difference is worth it, but the superior quality is there.
Per Consumer Reports, Apple has lower failure rates than any other PC maker. You can touch, feel, and look at a MacBook Pro and know that it's a higher quality product.

Exactly. No matter how high end your decoder is, it's still a decoder. This is all digital, so the data will be exactly the same.
HDMI has enough bandwidth that it makes no difference (currently) between transmitting a compressed or uncompressed signal.
Hopefully Rogue's in there instead.
