This seems to confirm no new Xbox in 2012.

All the rumours I've seen point to a late 2013 launch for the next Xbox. And I think that the next Playstation will launch at about the same time. I don't think Sony will have a later launch this time. And with Halo 4 launching late this year I think it would be madness for the next Xbox to be released at the same time as Halo 4 would take away from its launch.
Very well written article that, I think, is pretty much the way it is going to be. And I think the next Playstation will be much the same, maybe with more exclusives though.
I think that mugoldeneagle03 is on the right track in that the next gen consoles will be be more of a complete media hub than graphic powerhouses. In saying that, even relatively low spec/low cost CPU/GPU's in 2012/2013 will be much more powerful than the current Xbox 360/PS3 hardware so I think (with additional RAM) native 1080P with high frame rates and enhanced graphical effects will be a given. A lack of graphic tearing and full screen anti-aliasing should also ensure that games have ...
I think the next Playstation/Xbox 360 will be released in late 2013. If they are announced at this years E3 it will mainly be to take away the limelight from the Wii U. Now that the hardware is relatively cheap to manufacture, and with record PS3 and Xbox 360 sales in 2011, I think that Sony/Microsoft will want a few more years of profitability before moving to the next gen. In the first half of next year I think Microsoft will add the 320GB hard drive to the Xbox 360 (in lieu of the 250GB) a...
Looks like there has been a stuff up. People in the Xbox forums who have downloaded the game say that this is content only for the first disk!

Download is 6.67 GB according to Xbox.com.au. Pity Games on Demand is so expensive, especially for us Aussies. Is $69.95 AUS.
Yep can wait. Am really enjoying Battlefield 3 and Gears of War 3 and these should do me until 2013. I must admit that Battlefield 4 as a next gen Xbox launch title would be really nice. Frostbite 2 at native 1080P and 60FPS would be smokin hot ...
And this debate will likely roll on for the next few years whilst Microsoft sells record numbers of Xbox 360 consoles each year. Xbox 360 has had much less exclusives than PS3 for the last two years yet has had record sales. There is no incentive for Microsoft to introduce new non-Kinect IP's whilst the console is doing so well. I would like more exclusives but I can't see it happening.
2012 for the Xbox 360 just doesn't seem right. Why bring out the new console when much of the limelight late 2012 will be with the Xbox 360 exclusive Halo 4? And what would be the launch software. There will likely be no Halo, and also no Gears of War, Forza or Battlefield as they arn't due out till 2013 or later.
I think Sony (and Microsoft) will want to keep their manufacture costs down so they will be an evolution of the current tech. I think for PS4 a revised Cell chip, more ram (2/3B) and blu-ray. For next Xbox, a low power CPU/GPU and 2/3 GB of ram. I reckon this would easily allow 1080P graphics at high frame rates which will satisfy gamers. These consoles will be entertainment hubs so having cutting edge graphical powerhouses won't be a consideration. I would like a release in late 2014 (so...
I think Microsoft will continue on their current path with the next Xbox as console sales have been strong this year and the Xbox division is very profitable. I think there will be core exclusives (Halo, Forza etc), Kinect exclusives, heaps of multi-plats and even more emphasis on being an entertainment hub. I would prefer a release of the next Xbox in late 2013 so I can get more mileage out of my current console though!
But U.S. figures only. Apart from the U.S. and UK the PS3 is dominating. I have an Xbox 360 and love it, but the lack of success outside of these regions is a concern. Especially since Microsoft did not match the recent worldwide PS3 price cuts making it less competitive in most markets.
I think it will be announced at either E3 2012 or E3 2013, for release late 2013. Hopefully standard with a 500 GB hard drive and 40 GB+ capacity optical drive disk format. Full backward compatiblity with all games and peripherals would be nice.
A 2012 release just does not seem right. If this was going to happen wouldn't Microsoft be cutting prices now to build a lot of momentum? But they haven't cut prices worldwide like Sony did recently. I think that Microsoft are 'playing a long game' and will look to cut prices before the Wii U launch next year and again in 2013 before the next gen Xbox console launch. If they were to release in late 2012 what would be the launch games? Forza, Battlefield and Gears of War are no...

Good post, and I agree, 2013 is much more likely. This should also coincide with Forza Motorsport 5, Battlefield 4, the next Infinity Ward COD game and (maybe) the next Gears of War which would be a big AAA launch line up. I think that there would be a lot more leaks if the next Xbox was coming so soon. I would then expect Halo 5 to be released in late 2014 to really drive momentum.
Rockstar will make a business decision on which platforms to release it on. As the sales on Xbox 360 would likely be huge I would think it would definately be included. The available disk space is a minor consideration. It would either be on one or two disks on Xbox 360. If it can fit on one disk for GTA 4 (with a disk size maximum of 6.8 GB) then it will likely not require much more space for GTA 5. Especially as the Xbox 360 disks now have an extra 1 GB storage.
svoulis. I think we are similar in a way, love the Xbox 360 but frustrated by business decisions that are holding the console back. I think that there is no reason that the next gen Xbox can't have software backward compatibility for every Xbox 360 game. Won't be in hardware though, too expensive and I think there will be one SKU with a big internal hard drive. Must admit backward compatibility is not a big issue for me, but it is for quite a few gamers.
To me, the ...
fourthpersonview. That is total conjecture, in fact the Xbox 360 versions of GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption has the edge on the PS3 versions.

Agree, this will be a big learning curve for Nintendo, especially against the established Xbox Live and PSN. Nintendo have also previously said that there on-line service would be relatively open compared to Xbox Live. Does this mean that there will be a lack of standardisation for games (eg optional cross game chat)?
