Sony might be Japanese, but Playstation is American, and has it's eyes firmly locked on the global market. It's developed in California by mostly American guys (to the best of my knowledge) Playstation is an incredibly strong brand in Europe as well. They don't need to worry about Japan
Wrong. The best selling console is PS2. By far! And ps1 outsold the PS3 too. By now the PS3 is the worst selling Sony home console to date. But yes, looking at the best selling home consoles of all time, Sony is in 1st, 2nd and 4th, soon to be 3rd place.

Well, it really isn't a 9th gen, now is it? A 5th gen handheld maybe? In terms of capabilities it really is more of a 7th gen. And occupies a very different market than the traditional consoles. It might be a "hybrid", but really it's just a portable that can be easily hooked up to the TV. Yes yes, clockspeeds while docked and so on bla bla, but still. 9th gen? Really? Simply because if when it released? A bit silly, if you ask me
