The game has checkbox quests aplenty and an empty open world. That said, you can jump from battle to battle like you would in another mainline entry. It's peculiar and not for everyone, it may seem.
They tried to get Platinum Games (a revered Japanese developer) onboard their Xbox wagon, then canceled Scalebound, nearly sinking the developer along with it. I don't think any Japanese dev is eager to help or promote them. Which utterly sucks for them since Japanese developers deliver some of the finest work with integrity.
More big companies are going to crutch on the Epic Games Store until Steam decreases its percentage cut, or enough players get tired of the exclusivity and move over, or maybe Epic Games will add quality-of-life improvements and convince players to move. I don't have a horse in the race.
