Ugh, you just don't know how right you are.
It's like folks on here feel as if they have something to prove aside from their willingness to get an STD.
You can actaully shave some of that cost off. Downgrade to 2GB of ram, and most folks won't notice it. I'm running 2 gigs on my gaming rig without a hitch.
Also, I wrote an article on building a $430 gaming rig, in the same fashion as yours. A (what's inside the box).
You can get OS's for cheap. You can snag a CD-key off eBay for 20-30 dollars, and download the ISO using mircosoft's USB/DVD creation tool, and input the CD-key there.
Actaully, I've fixed a friend's PS3 twice.
A heat gun is about $25, you buy it once.
The thermal paste is $10, which covers about... 3-4 repairs. Possibly more.
Then, if you don't have a T-10 scredriver, you can get one for about 5 to 6 bucks, but I bought a big collection of screwdrivers for 10 bucks. You only buy that once.
So, initially, the first fix is $41-45 bucks, the next 2 or 3 are free, and then another 10 b...

Almost too fast for me. I managed to get two kills out of... 5 rounds!
It's frantic, though. I'd reccomend it.
