Let's forget about scores and just focus on one thing. Your own personal taste and experience with the game. Based on reviews/previews I think the game could have been better if they included towns and many other elements but their lazyness... But I still believe that FFXIII will be a great game in its own right.
Let's just wait to play a demo, rent the game or whatever to create your own personal opinion before start saying that the game's crap/flop just based on others people ...
Games like Halo and Mario have the power to change the industry and move it forward. But that's because they are like mega-ultra-super-duper popular. FF it's popular but it will never sell 10 millions in a couple of months like Call of Duty:MW2 just did.
In fact isn't Mario and Zelda made by Nintendo? A Japanese dev... And what about Gran Turismo? One of the best selling franchises ever and is made by Japanese devs or Metal Gear? If this is not enough to resurrect the Japanese In...
After reading the article I just can't agree with many of his points. I just don't want games to touch themes like War and its many consequences in a realistic way. That would be way too sad. In movies it's fine but in a 10-20 hours game? You're not just watching you know, that would be like playing many scenes like the Russian airport in COD:MW2...
I'm not saying that it shouldn't be done but that I wouldn't like it. Games can be art in other different ways than that. Just look ...
Anyway, instead of so much cinematic they should have included exploration elements and towns. In fact, I think this is why I'm enjoying WKC so much. There are so many places to go and huge environment to explore full of monsters, materials, weapons, armors, you name it. And this is one of the strongest complain of IGN about the game. They said that stages were like huge labyrinths... They will love FFXIII then, stages seem very limited.
But from what I have read from previews FF...
This game it's too much for the western media. Reviewers are always asking for innovation and when you give it to them they prefer to save the 9's and 10' to already overrated franchises that have been stagnant since years ago. <--- And I'm not using examples because these days you can't express an opinion without being called a "fanboy" by some douchebag.

Disgaea is strategy
Demon's Souls was made by a Japanese game dev but it is more like a wrpg than jrpg

I don't know about that but I think WKC it's my new crack because I've been playing the game like all day. And my town still looks like crap compare to the awesomeness I've seen today while doing online quests.
The author's hating on FFXIII really hard and this it's just a preview... =0
People are beating FFXIII in 20 hours and there aren't that many side quest beside doing sh1t to get the ultimate weapons.
And if for you button mash the X button it's exiting then good for you because that's how it is the battle system of FFXIII.

Bad Company 2 and Heavy Rain are the highest scores of the month! Even higher than FFXIII. L0L
I predict that this game will get mixed reviews. Big sites like IGN will rate it with a 9 and above because it is a FF tittle and they're probably being paid to put advertisements on their websites. While smaller more true to their real opinion sites like Edge will rate it with 7 and lower because of the lack of depth and extreme linearity. Maybe 8's because of the incredible graphics... Graphics matter a lot to reviewers.
This is a sandbox game made on a DVD... Meh. Let just keep waiting for Agent. That game will not go multiplat and it is being made by the same team of GTAIV. Rockstar North.
