Looking at other games and their engines, the one IW is using is dated, just as Valve's Steam engine is (even though it is better than what IW is using, imo).
No new engine = boring. Play through the story in one day, then send the rental back.
I wish developers would take more risk by increasing their focus on innovating the gameplay and story-telling in single-player. Then have that innovation reflect onto the multiplayer as much as possible.
Trying to be CoD is like to trying to be the US president. It's not about the change, it's all about the popularity and just doing repetitive crap.

Agree with a comment above, even BC2 was better than Call of Duty.
I'd like to find a better RPG with similar style as Oblivion and the Elder Scrolls, but unfortunately there were none at the time.
