Don't get me wrong. I support both formats. I simply prefer Blu-ray at the moment because the PS3 can play them. My concern is that I don't see the two formats living together in harmony. It seems to be an all or nothing situation. Therefore, a lot of people are going to be very angry when one format finally wins, since they would have to re-buy their movies. I think it would be best for the consumer if this ends sooner rather than later.
And no, I don't expect Toshiba to just ...
But I don't see Fox or Disney going neutral any time soon. They seem to be putting their bets on Blu-ray. Sony wil definitely not go neutral. So that leaves Warner. I don't really mind which format wins. The only reason I care is because I will own a PS3 (soon), so I'm set for Blu-ray. HD-DVD wil require me to spend more money.
I could even see them co-exist if they both had the same studio support, but that won't happen. This war was good while it lasted, but you feel it has t...
Yes, the mass market will buy this, but what will it actually achieve? Blu-ray still has the most studio support. There will be a lot of people with HD-DVD players, but no movies to watch. I don't understand why people are still buying HD-DVD. Sure, the players are cheap now, but what's the point?
With Profile 1.0 PIP was optional, but with the new Profile 1.1, PIP is now mandatory. That's the nice thing about the PS3 though. With the Cell and firmware updates, it will always be able to support future enhancements.
If anyone asked me today to recommend a Blu-ray player, I'd be hard pressed not to recommend the PS3. It is really one of the best value, and dare I say it, future proof players on the market currently.
Thanks for the info. It seems that 40Gig is the way to go for me then. I'll just replace the drive with a nice 320Gig drive. Good times.
Maybe if I'm lucky I can get one late November/early December bundled with a Dualshock 3.
I was planning on buying a 60Gig when Uncharted comes out, but I would actually prefer to get the quieter 40Gig model. I don't mind the BC and smaller HD (will install a bigger one in any way), but i might miss the card readers and USB ports.
Does anyone know: Can any of-the-shelf PC card readers and USB hubs be used with the PS3, or do you need specific hubs? I already have a bunch of USB hubs and card readers for my PC lying around and if I can just use them, then I'll seriou...
I can understand why they do it. I've been living in Taiwan for about 2 years now and I got my copy here for NT790, which is about $24 US. My question is: If I move back to my home country, will my copies also be de-activated?
To me, the only advantage of steam was that I could access my games from anywhere in the world. But now it seems that's not even true.

If you download the high res versions of the video, both the GameVideos and GameTrailers video look exactly the same. I don't know what's wrong with the low res version.
Sony is trying hard to phase out the 60G model and when they are gone, there probably will be an 80G high end and a 40G low end console.
Does anybody know why Sony is trying so hard to phase out the 60G consoles? Are they more expensive to manufacture? I noticed that the 40G has less ventilation holes, which probably means it produces less heat. Could they be 65nm?
Diagnosing and fixing PC problems isn't as easy as they make it out to be. When a computer doesn't start up, it can be one of about a thousand things and unless you have the right equipment or spare parts, it will be difficult to find.
I liked the laptop problem. All they have to do is re-install Windows. Re-installing windows isn't as simple as they made it out to be, and you would normally re-format when re-installing.
40Gig PS3 + MGS4 + Dualshock 3 bundle for $399 by November 2007.
One can dream...
I still say that the additions they made to Halo 3 would make this game at least a 9. It's not the greatest game ever, but definitely a 9. But, if Halo 3 can get a 10, then I expect that the Orange Box to get at least an 11.
I would say that Halo 3 deserves at least a 9. From what I have seen from other reviews, Bungie has done enough to get at least a 9 rating. This game is a AAA title, whether you think it's overrated or not.
If anything ruins this game for me, it would be Microsoft. When I open my copy of Halo 3, and the skies do not part, with a choir of angels and beams of light illuminating my copy, I'm going to assume that I have bought a defective copy, and I will will return it to the shop...
Looking at the original trailer, the animal models seem pretty much the same but the environment doesn't look nearly as good as the original. Where is all the long grass blowing in the wind?
It would be cool if this is some sort of wildlife simulation and the animals are actually living in the world. Moving from water holes to grazing areas, having young, hunting each other. It would be spectacular to sit and watch a water hole with some gazelles drinking water and the next mom...
UMD for movies was a bit of a flop, but it works great for games. It's like a mini DVD in a protective cartridge. Can't they simply use the same cartridge for PSP 2, but use a mini Blu-Ray instead?
David Perry used to be great. MDK is still one of my all time favorite games. Maybe he misses the limelight and this is his way of getting it back.
As with the E3 conference from Microsoft, I expected more. Looking forward to what Sony has to show.
Well, the better, less flamebait, version has apparently failed approval. So, I guess we'll be stuck with this version then. Go N4G...
I was actually hoping for a Killzone demo after E3. Maybe a Killzone demo after TGS (which is a week before Halo 3).
It seems that the confusion comes from the fact that most people do not know what upscaling is, and the back of the box doesn't make it clear what the native resolution is.
Upscaling takes the natively rendered screen, and re-sizes it to whatever resolution. The same as taking a small pic in Photoshop and resizing it. At the end then full 1080P screen is sent to the TV, but it was still generated from a 720P (or lower) screen. Maybe the back of the box should state the native r...
