You're probably wrong. Last I heard, Japan wasn't exactly the most Christian centric country in the world. They're Shinto and Buddhist. (In other words, don't celebrate Christmas.)
Actually, that isn't true in this case. While I agree with your cynicism with regards to "protection" from the government, in this case it just doesn't apply. The CRTC (Canadian equivalent of the FCC) doesn't regulate media that is transferred over the internet - there was a ruling in the late 90s that set this policy. Obviously the media content distributed via Xbox LIVE falls under the category of "content delivered via internet". This *is* an issue between Microsoft...
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it ironic that a Vancouver based company (Lionsgate - yes, I'm aware they have offices in Cali too but they're based out of Canada) can't distribute content to Canada but only the USA? Microsoft needs to get this fixed.
If this is true, then Sony's really f***ed! Their precious, proprietary media format getting hacked by its own hardware?! HAHAHAHA!
...less than 2 years, then yes - these set do exist. Lots of rear-projection sets are 480i,480p,540p,1080i only. I have a 51" Hitachi, for example, that is only 18 months old (since I purchased - manufactured 24 months ago) that is limited to these resolutions. It really SHOULDN'T be a problem, since my 360 can scale everything to 1080i, so can my satellite receiver. It's pretty pathetic, really, that the PS3 can't. "Cutting edge?" Riiiight.
In short. Yes, the 360 has an onboard scaler (and is able to scale, on the fly, at no cost to the performance of the system). So if the game is 720p native, but you have a 1080i set, you only need to set your 360 to "1080i" in the dash and that's the output you'll get. Regardless of what the game is natively. No, the PS3 doesn't have this hardware. If the PS3 were to scale, it would need to be done in through the cell - yes, this would come at a performance hit to the system.
If you have 1080i selected as the desired output to your tv on your PS3, and boot up a 720p game (like Resistance, for instance) the game will boot up and present you with a message, "This game is meant to be outputted at 720p. Please select 720p from your dash. Press Start to Continue." If you push start, the game will change to 480p. If you go back to your dash and select 720p and restart the game, but your tv doesn't support 720p, it will be downscaled to 480p. If your tv su...
Sorry buddy, but I could care less what you or anyone else decides to spend their money on. The article is about whether or not the PS3 is worth the price. It's not. I gave one big reason why it's not. If you decide to waste your money on it, then that's your choice and while I might not agree with it, I fully agree that it's yours to make. From my perspective though, I can only see people buying the P$3 who are either a) uninformed about the console and what its capable of, or b) too bl...
I caught the other post further down the page after I posted this comment. "But thanks for playing." Seriously, who the hell says that? Get a life, buddy. Even if the story *is* stashed further down the page, this is HUGE news. If all the PS3 can do is output in 480p then that is a nail in the coffin. Only blind fanboys will still buy a PS3.
The PS3 is ESPECIALLY not worth it if you don't have a tv that natively accepts a 720p signal! *NONE* of the PS3's games that are 720p will upscale to 1080i! Therefore, if you have a CRT HDTV (only about 2% of them accept a 720p signal, natively) then your PS3 will be downscaling all games to 480p! SONY SUCKS! How is this acceptable?! Yet so many sheep are going to go out there and buy a PS3 without even knowing the facts first! Complete and utter crap! 480p?!?! WTF?!
So I should be able to take my PS3 and hook it up to the 347V distribution panel in my friendly neighborhood warehouse?! Or I could theoretically pop open a transformer on the side of the road and hook 'er right up to the primary side at 4.167kV?! DAAAAAAMMN! That's SWEET! Wait a minute, wait a minute. Wouldn't "universal" also mean that it doesn't just support single phase but THREE phase as well?! So I could just take my good 'ole 4C#250MCM Teck 90 cable over here, rig it up...
I haven't had a single issue with clipping, tearing, Sam getting stuck anywhere OR bad AI in SC:DA. I've played through the entire game on hard and enjoyed every second of it. You're either full of it, or there's something wrong with your copy.
...you know what this means? No more hiding the fact that you're carrying an energy sword until you JUST come into lunge-range and whip it out for an instant kill. Now carrying that sword around will REALLY make you a target. (Good thing, in my opinion...)
No, you can't transfer it to your main account. Also, every 360 only gets 2 (or maybe 3, I forget) of those free 1-month subscriptions. So if you create another couple of accounts, eventually you won't it anymore.
...not so fast there buddy. Xbox LIVE has a couple of things on this system. The first and most obvious is that it's a proven system that works well with no (or very few) hiccups. The second that I can think of off the top of my head is that XBL allows in game chatting and messaging (even cross-game chatting) which this article specifically states the PS3 doesn't support. So if you're in a game and want to invite you buddy (who's playing another game) then you're out of luck. Or, if you ...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this EXACTLY what Bill Gates said about a year ago?! And when he said that, weren't all the Sony Fanboys rabidly foaming at the mouth, screaming that Bill Gates doesn't know what he's talking about, that he's flat-out wrong? And all the Sony execs were claiming that he's wrong and that Blu-Ray is the wave of the future?
Oh, no... wait. I'm not wrong:

It's not the fans themselves that hurt the system. The intercooler draws power from the brick and then feeds power on to the 360. Its the shoddy electrical connections in the intercooler that cause problems (shorting, arcing, burning...)
Not only is this not needed, but it is also a flawed product! Go to the xbox forums (accessories section) and do a search and find out the horror stories of these things melting the power prongs of your console, shorting out, smoking, etc. THEY ARE JUNK. Don't buy one - they simply aren't necessary (and there's a good chance they'll destroy your otherwise fine 360).
On a purely hardware level, ATI's Xbox 360 GPU (codenamed Xenos) is quite interesting. The part itself is made up of two physically distinct silicon ICs. One IC is the GPU itself, which houses all the shader hardware and most of the processing power. The second IC (which ATI refers to as the "daughter die") is a 10MB block of embedded DRAM (eDRAM) combined with the hardware necessary for z and stencil operations, color and alpha processing, and anti aliasing. This daughter die is co...
Although that contributor's test is a little too unforgiving, IMHO. I keep getting 13/14 or 12/14 and I know it's because of a missed checkmark on one of those "which categories does this news fit in?" questions. I tried 4 times and gave up. Oh well. Site looks great though!
