I got both games on release. COD4 got boring after 2 weeks and hasn't seen the inside of my xbox since. As far as FPS goes, I've been playing Halo 3 for like 18 months now (and before that, Halo 2 for 3 years, and before that, Halo CE for 3 years). That's because people who own 360's are actually enjoying the new features, not huddled up circle-jerking RRoD threads on "gaming" (and I use the term loosely, "trolling" is probably more accurate) websites.
My update was seemless - it took about 3 minutes, total. And I haven't had a single problem since then. The only thing I've noticed is that the friends list is occasionally slow to populate (because XBL was getting HAMMERED yesterday with everyone downloading the update and playing around with its features, all at once).
Remember with the old blades system where you'd sometimes open up your friends list and it would take a couple seconds to populate? Or you open up a gamercard...
EXACTLY! You can't own a patent on an idea, only on something very specific (like the software code, or device blueprints, etc). Some people need to do a little bit of learning before they start spouting off about something they obviously know nothing about.
I'm in the same boat. I've been playing on and off since friday night, and I've never had problems connecting. I was disconnected once on Friday night, but was able to log right back in. Since then - no problems.

...a bit nervous about what will happen to the franchise without Bungie having direct control over it, however MS did take some of the creative entities from Bungie (like Frankie) to ensure that the franchise stays true to its roots - so all in all I'm hopeful that it'll end up being a great game... whenever it is that we get to see finally see it.

Exactly. I'd be more than willing to buy into the next gen soon - even next winter wouldn't be too early in my opinion. But 2010 is just right. 2011 is starting to be a little late. I'm an early adopter. If people are going to wait 3 or 4 years into a console's life to buy it, then don't complain when a new console comes out a few years after. I don't buy a 2008 model of a car at the beginning of 2008 and then whine when a 2009 model comes out a few months later.
yup. in my opinion, even 7 years in pushing it. with the speed that technology is advancing these days, I don't want to be playing on some out-of-date, piece-of-crap console when there's new and cutting edge stuff that I could be playing on. 5 years is a good cycle.
