i think the reason Avatar was so big is because there's an economic depression currently,
historically it's been shown that there's increased traffic to theaters during hard times. (plus you had to pay for the glasses, so really it wasn't that big of a hit.)

i dunno about October for Natal, probably launch a week(or so) before Black Friday in November.
that way negative reviews won't effect the adoption rate.
Microsoft can even launch it for the 150$ price the week before Black Friday and then cut it the week of to a more reasonable price, and keep that price going forward.

i guess this furthers that Sony exec's line of thinking of exclusives coming to an end. Nintendo, though, I think will disagree and continue in the blue ocean.
