These apparent changes to GFWL are actually something I've advocated in the past.
If you'd like to argue the points in my comment, I'd be interested in what you have to say.
I stick by what I said because, according to the information we have, it looks like MS is opening up a digital distribution marketplace that does not require DRM, does not require any sort of client application and whose extended services are completely optional. On its s...
If you don't know, MS is notorious for getting things right on the 3rd try. It's one of those rules with MS. Joystiq has some info as well:

F STEAM. This has a very good chance of working. Why? Because MS isn't requiring anyone to tie GFWL into their games, they aren't requiring you t...

That piracy does not fit the definition of theft. Theft would be the taking of the original work. However, the content producer DID spend time creating said content. The content producer would like to get paid for their labor. I don't mind paying to enjoy the fruits of someone's labor, but the price has to be reasonable and I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to enjoy it, hence my anti-DRM stance. I also believe that when I buy a copy of some digital media, that copy is mi...
I do not condone piracy. That said, when it comes to piracy, it is an economic evaluation. Which would the individual rather spend, time or money? What are you getting for your time vs. what are you getting for your money? Not many people take the time to understand the motivations for piracy. Without understanding what motivates the pirates, one cannot effectively combat them.
When it comes to DRMed content, some people would rather spend TIME (aka "pirating"...
I don't think Oprah wipes her ass with 1/5 of her net worth. If she did, she would be broke after one turd.
Almost everything in the OP's comment is vaporware. Cell 2.0 with 5 PPEs and 32 cores running at 7-10ghz? Vaporware. Larrabee? Essentially vaporware. Directx 12/OpenGL? Vaporware. UHDTV (4320p) in a consumer level graphics card? Vaporware. 16 gigs of XDR ram in any affordable consumer level device? Vaporware. GDDR7? Hasn't be specified yet, vaporware.
Since the OP was obviously going all out with their dream system, I asked why limit themselves with crappy Bluray...
Also, given the rest of the specs on your ridiculous system, why would they use Bluray 2.0 instead of HVD?
I didn't say it is ok to pirate games, at all. Someone did work to create the game and I'm sure they would like to be compensated for their work. I'm trying to explain a more effective way to combat piracy. You don't make it even more burdensome and expensive for a person to obtain your software.
Content producers are peddling their wares to a populace that is getting more and more tech savvy. They are selling to a population that sees less value in the content th...
I'm just saying the UI and experience on the 360 should be the experience of Live on every platform. It is a wonderfully cohesive user experience, very well thought out.
As for DRM free, that isn't entirely Microsoft's fault. Publishers are the ones that push DRM. MS is a publisher, but they also act as a distributer for other publishers with their marketplace. However, if Microsoft would start to discourage DRM in the industry, I think a lot of people would ...
Nobody has gotten the message yet. Nobody wants DRM except the publishing companies. For those saying piracy kills gaming I would counter that ridiculous prices and ever increasingly intrusive DRM are what kills it.
If you make it simple and you make it cheap, people will buy it up. Although I don't agree with the man, Arthur Laffer applied a similar theory to tax revenue in the Laffer Curve.
For games it becomes a matter of which a person would rat...
MS just needs to bring the 360 version of Live to the PC with all of its features. Cross game chat, party chat, voice messages, leaderboards, achievements, etc. Make Live interoperable between 360 and PC. Simplify authentication, or better yet, forget DRM totally. This alone would put their platform ahead of Steam or anyone else.
A marketplace for downloading DRM free games, with the social network of Live, would really make MS the go to place for games, bar none. Even st...
Kazunori Yamauchi: I want to release it as fast as I can, but GT5 for us, when you talk about its status, it's at a point we can release it any time we want, but we can always keep working on it.

I don't see how LordMarius's comment is off the wall. Firmware has broken functionality in the past and could cause issues in the future. Developers get firmware drops before end users do so they can test it with their software and prepare patches as needed. This is the same for any dev house in any field.
You can release it on time with no bugs or glitches.
Just look at the robo-signer scandal in the U.S. going on now.
There are good reasons for many of the 360 delays.
Too Human - was originally intended for PS in 1999 and designed as a 4 disc game. Focus switched to GameCube in early 2000. Finally settled on the 360 in 2005 and redesigned as a trilogy. When development started, the Unreal Engine was not complete, so they were forced to complete parts of the engine as well as their own code. Entered into a legal battle with Epic over UE3 and contractual obligations. If you can't un...
I don't think you guys got the point of commodore's comment. He isn't saying the 360 is a superior machine, but that the architecture in the 360 is more familiar to developers. Therefore, the amount of time, and consequently money, invested into learning how to program for the system is less than that needed for the PS3. Microsoft also has incredible developer tools available while Sony's still leave a lot to be desired. Given that Microsoft's platform has better devel...
GPGPU and stream processing are not new concepts, they have been around since the 80s. Nvidia has been rapping Cuda for a while and ATI has Stream. GPGPU had not taken off rapidly because it was difficult to program and it usually required vendor lock in. Only recently has software started to be developed and standardized to allow developers to make use of this capability across all hardware vendors' platforms. OpenCL and DirectCompute will help usher in some phenomenal changes to game e...
No client necessary? No tie in to GFWL necessary? Without a client, there is no DRM enforcement on MS's part, so either the publisher has to enforce it or it won't be there. That gets my hopes up.
All in all, this service, as far as a digital distribution channel, looks loads better than STEAM and Impulse. No extended services participation required. Integration with existing services. No client. It looks win.
What I'm hoping is that th...
