LOL dude this is so true. The hackers DID make the PSP awesome. Sony released a crippled as all hell product just to advance another format, UMD, much like the PS3 uses Bluray to advance that format, whereas Microsoft and the PC have already proven that the "next generation" works fine with DVD. The PSP, non GO version, has only recently become semi-decent for people using official firmware since the quality of games has improved some. Load times are still abysmal though and the...
@trroy
My comparison is fairly accurate, I believe.
In the car industry, the manufacturer can only prevent licensed OEM parts from being distributed immediately after product release. Therefore, I can take the brand new Civic, disassemble the motor and fabricate cams, crank, header, intake manifold, etc. and sell anything I make as unlicensed, non OEM parts without worry about Honda telling me I cannot do that. Likewise, I can turn around and sell that Civic the ...

I don't think piracy is morally correct. I either buy games or I do not buy them and do not download them. I have a Steam account, a GOG account, a Direct2Drive account, Xbox Live account, etc. I am a firm believer in compensating someone for the fruits of their labor. I am also a firm believer in the price mechanism and the ability of consumer/producer to agree on a price. The current way in which the market works is that the producer sets a price and the ...
These people are cheering on some of the most anti-consumer behavior ever witnessed in the past 20 years.
What Sony, Microsoft, Apple, etc. do with firmware is equivalent to owning a car, modifying it with non-OEM parts, then taking it to a dealer for service, only to have the dealer break the car so it won't function and not give you your money back. Who here would not break that dealer's arms and legs? Likewise, why are people willing to forgive any of the aforme...
who cares if the console is hacked?
piracy != lost sales. pirated copies of games cannot be counted as lost sales, this remains one of the biggest fallacies perpetrated by game publishers/developers.
if you wish to avoid piracy as much as possible, make something people want on the most open platform at the cheapest price point with no drm.
STEAM, Direct2Drive, GOG are all successful because they follow this exact formula. Cheap, mini...

darkblood,
AMD just released the 6870 and 6850 graphics cards. You will probably want to get a PC that uses those. The 5770 is about 1.5 years old now. The 68XX graphics cards have better tessellation performance, which is going to be something that matters in the future. Hardware tessellation gives the same detail as parallax occlusion mapping but is less computationally expensive. It is important for infinite level of detail as well. I would even suggest a rig with 2 6850 or ...
I think the next physical format is gonna be similar to cartridges. NAND flash is getting cheaper as the node processes get smaller. I wouldn't be surprised to see games distributed on read only encrypted USB drives, especially as USB 3.0 gains adoption. Transfer speeds for USB 3.0 will be around 400 MB/s, a speed Blu-Ray is probably never going to achieve. I'd also expect DVD drives to be present in the next generation of consoles solely for backwards compatability. 50 GB USB dr...
I'm a car enthusiast and I hate GT5 and Forza 3. I prefer real driving to either of the horribly unrealistic simulators. Current video games just can not do justice to actual racing, which is why I prefer arcade racers to simulators.
If the reviews were panning it, then perhaps reviews are useful afterall. A lot of people were saying they would wait for the GT5 reviews and got screamed down for it as if they were idiots. Waiting for reviews isn't a bad thing, it helps someone make a more informed decision.
Because games are made for our consumption and are not necessary to live. We can demand more from the games or simply buy something else that satiates our needs. If they want our money, they must give us what we want. Can you please everyone? Of course not, but the demands of most of the gamers must be met or else you won't make any sales.
the investors will only stand by losing money for so long. and yeah, i AM a microsoft fan.
time to retire the genre. Good games come from all genres, what kind of gamer would suggest certain types of games shouldn't be made? I don't like shooters, but that doesn't mean I want the shooter genre to go away. If you don't like the games, don't buy them, that's all. Others will if they do like the games.
when steam isn't around anymore and you can't play your games because of steam's drm, i'll be playing this game worry free.
First, I don't believe anything at all should be banned from being sold to anyone. Not games, not movies, not books, magazines, music, etc. That means I believe porn, ultra violence, etc. can and should be allowed to be sold to anyone by the retailer.
Second, I believe retailers have a right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. This means that retailers could refuse sales to minors if they see fit to do so. It also means they could refuse service to minorities...
From GOG. 10% discount, NO DRM!!!!! Steam can suck on this. Hopefully the sales will be great so that DRM advocates can go pound sand. This made me so excited that I peed a little.
We need more DRM free releases, please order from GOG people! Not only will you be supporting an awesome developer completely dedicated to its fans, but you will be helping to show the industry that people will pay for DRM free content at a fair price!
Oh I know why:

I'm not backtracking, nor really defending, anyone. If you look at my comment history I've stated in the past that I do not like simulation racers. I couldn't care less who "wins" the GT5 vs. Forza3 war. I've only stated that Forza 3 is not a flop and that Turn10 should be, and probably is, happy with their success, and with good reason.
Looks like a slightly older Shepard.

The dirt and the angle just make him harder to recognize. The sniper rifle and armor look consistent with the ME universe.
no.
