Isn't the argument that, if you have the digital edition, no, you can't go buy physical? Nor can you go buy a download code for a game to compete with PSN prices.

"You only have yourself to blame" is not a defense to an anti-trust claim.

The argument is that you can't buy games on the digital store front unless you buy directly from PSN. You can't go to Gamestop and buy a download code for Madden if you have a Digital Edition PS5, for example.

Curious how "the laws have already sided with Apple"? The EU's determination that ios is its own market is a big blow to Apple for what it's currently facing (and may soon face from the DOJ here in the states). Epic's cases aren't perfect, but Apple isn't out of the woods here.

Now, to say the PS5 Digital Edition is a market unto itself in the same way as ios has become is an uphill battle, but the suit will survive a bit longer than it would...

Except it doesn't sell their HW or store, so why sacrifice those losses?

It's one thing to access Alyx w/o Index, but you're still going through PC/Steam.

What do they gain giving away their only system seller? And why is Sony still doing VR exclusives instead of this kumbaya attitude?

Valve makes billions if people access their stores, their HMUs, etc.

Maybe they make $100m off of PSVR, while giving their competitor their biggest "exclusive".

I just don't see them doing it.

Can you, though? I still see Alyx as Valve's attempt to drive VR sales where they can benefit (PC).

It'll sell a few million copies on PS, I'm sure. But is that really that big of a deal to them?

I think it was just fans taking a guess.

The rumor of MS and Lucas teaming up has been going for a few months. It started to get even more weight recently with others speaking up that they are hearing about a certain XGS team working on a SW game.

Then Coalition mentioned multiple projects. I never thought Coalition was the one doing it personally. I do agree that a 3rd person shooter of Mando would make sense, but I think Coalition has it's hands f...

Pretty much. I'm also curious because MS has supposedly begun upgrading xcloud servers to the SX. That's got to take a lot of stock away, too.

It's going to be funny to watch if Bethesda can come out and deliver what we've been hoping/waiting for from Star Citizen all these years.

If we do get our own ships in this game, preemptive thank you to the modder who creates an Eagle-5 mod for me.

Orchard summed it up very well, but I don't think that means Epic won't be "thanking" MS with something on the side...

Compare Nintendo's output then to 2019 Xbox output.

Are you really surprised?

More surprising that despite the lack of 1st party, MS has gone neck and neck w/Nintendo.

If you were saying that PSN made more that all of Xbox and Nintendo COMBINED, then you were wrong.

If you were saying that PSN made more than either of the other two separately, then others were wrong.

It was a common misreading (and poor math skills) that circulated back then.

The present suits aren't entirely different than the MS suit from the 90's. You're free to create your own store or OS and run it however you want, but it doesn't mean you might not be doing it legally.

Antitrust and anticompetitive allegations don't mean you have a complete monopoly.

For the Epic suit, the example their attorneys used this week isn't bad:

Think of Apple as a car dealer. In order to run, the c...

Epic isn't a public company, so Tencent's investment was negotiated and came with Epic's approval.

Tencent also got a great deal because they invested so early. 330m for a 40% stake. Compare to recent investments (Sony paid $250m for a 1.4% stake).

If Tencent is forced to divest, it's not a bad return.

The climate is ripe for the Apple suit, though. The October report from the House has set the stage for an even bigger fight for Apple and Google in particular.

While it hasn't gotten a lot of attention, the Cydia suit is even more interesting imo. That's an App store that existed before Apple had their own that is alleging Apple has systematically gone about undermining their business after initially relying on 3rd party app stores.

Regardless, ...

@ Vits

The revenue split is the complication, agree with you.

But what if it's a curated list of games not available on Switch otherwise (or PS5 ...although I doubt Sony will allow it).

But what if there's a Nintendo GP/xcloud for just your Gears, Fable, Forza, Halo, Bethesda games, etc.?

There's no lost revenue from Nintendo. It helps them by giving them access to a new library.

My t...

@MrWriter

See, that's where it gets complicated to me.

If a game is only available on GP on Switch via cloud streaming, how are DLC purchases handled? If I'm on xcloud on my phone, and I go to buy DLC for a game, I don't get routed through the play store. Its all "in app."

This was why MS has had to find a work around on ios.

They won't have most of this content available for download anywh...

No official browser, but Switch has a handful of cloud titles. I think some version of xcloud/gamepass is coming to it.

I still wonder if MS will need a special list just for Switch (might be some license issues from 3rd parties). I'm not sure how Nintendo would react to the competition within its own store front.

For just one example, Minecraft still sells very well on switch. Nintendo gets 30% of each sale and purchase. If it's streaming th...

He's pretty much had to admit that the whole: "We're fighting for the little guys too" routine was BS.

This hasn't been great for him. Granted, I'm not exactly rooting for Apple either.
