They did the same with the Switch, trying to convince people it's junk and not to buy it. I own 2 PS4's and I still say between Scorpio and Switch Sony's huge market share just got a huge bite taken out of it. For me I tire of using it fairly quickly. In fact I enjoyed RE7 more without the headset which was my deciding factor in selling it. I still have my Oculus, but it doesn't get a ton of use. I wanted VR all my life but IMO it isn't there yet. Poor resolutions, tracking issues, poor motion controls (PS4), screen door effect (Oculus), and wires everywhere left me short of impressed. It was always intended to be a limited production system, made for fans. No worries for me, I got 3 of them. One to play with, 1 to collect and 1 I gave as a gift. The extra controllers were almost impossible to find though.
This is why my Pro is for exclusives only. Rarely hitting 60fps at 4K, even when checkerboarded is a bit of a disappointment. No Scorpio for me though as my PC's are more powerful and I get all the games anyway.

Actually go buy a 50" TV these days, its hard to find a 1080p set anymore. 4K isn't expensive, I have 2 sets, a 65" and a 50". Point is they didn't cost much more than what a 1080 set would have cost. Shop around, you might be surprised at the deals you might get.

Virtual Boy was not a VR device, it was a 3d device. It literally sat on a tripod so how could you possibly even think it was VR. it did fail because it sucked, but it wasnt VR.
